Joanne - the granny trolley idea is great, I bet you could get away with it. Go on, try!
Hypno - Joanne is right, it really works having children help out at a carboot - people will buy stuff off them they'd never buy from an adult. The only trouble is, they demand a cut of the proceeds.
I don't enjoy doing carboots either but it is good to get free cash and to get rid of junk. Think how nice it would be to have some space in your garage.
Most of what I've got is clothes and books, neither of which seem to sell that well, but with the help of a willing 12 year old (blue eyes, no bunches) I'll surely make something.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Hahah! I might give it a go Seaxwyn! Ok I might need to have a couple of gins beforehand for bravery, but I'll give it a go!
Couple of tips for shifting your books and clothes. (this is the ex charity shop manager in me now)
- ALWAYS take blank paper or some A4 shaped pieces of cardboard, a black marker and stickytake to the carboot.
- When setting up your table it's a good idea to advertise your prices, hence the stationary.
- If you have LOTS of books, try to do something like the following. KIDS BOOKS (usually the little thin things) Xp each or 5 for X. PAPER BACKS - Xp each or 3 for £X. HARD BACKS - £X each or 3 for £X. Jot theese offers down on the paper or card and tape to the front of your table so that folk can see your offers from further away and be attracted to your stall.
- Another plus side of having the paper and markers means that if things are slowing down and books arent selling, you can remove the old offers and replace them with cheaper offers. Which would you rather do: Sell off the last of your books super cheap, or go home whith clutter?
- When selling clothes, if you have a hanging rail at home like this one *CLICK* Dismantle it and take it to the car boot. Hang all your items and again use the paper and pen to advertise your offer. Try something like: All kids clothes Xp each or 3 for £X, or all items 3 for the price of 2 - cheapest item free. Again, you want rid of it, so make it as attractive as possible.
I hope that's a little help

I will probably have to take the children with me anyway (11 and 13) because OH is working (again) this weekend. They don't mind doing them (well, they have only done a couple before but didn't complain!) and a small cut in the profits would be allowable I think (saves me giving them pocket money for the month!!).Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Great idea for a thread
Today I will:
- claim my travel expenses
- look about to see if there is anything else I can ebayJan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
Thanks JCD for the advice. I will sort out the stationery and marker pens today because I'm always too disorganised to do it at the last minute.
I have got a hanging rail but it is RUBBISH. It falls over in the slightest breeze or if you hang more than about three things on it. I need to find a way of reinforcing it - tips welcome.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Morning Joanne
Excellent thread!
This week I will:
- List a whole spare room full of books onto Amazon
- Do a couple of matched bets, got some freebie bets due so will definately make profit!
- Make sure I keep up with the Whiskey Bottle Challenge and save EVERY coin that I get 20p or under.
- Make lunches to take to work instead of getting the most delish Tuna, Cheese & Coleslaw Jacket pots from the posh extravagently priced sandwich shop (gonna miss those)
- Sort some [strike]crap[/strike] quality items to sell on ebay
- Do a massive grocery shop online to save me from getting tempted as always happens when I visit the supermarket.
Umm that's it for now, I'm sure I'll think of summat else later.

Hi there Jo
I hope you had a good weekend, yes?
Well first port of call for me today is callinginland revenue and telling them I'm not paying this bill, that they've cocked up the paperwork, I've paid fines to them which were not due to me and that I'd also like a rebate :rotfl:
I'm glad everyone's liking the idea of the thread so far.
Remember folks, post your WEEKLY pledge, everything you want to push for this week. What we can do is, on Sunday each week we can all update and let each other know how we got on and pass on any hints and tips that were picked up during the week

Hiya, great thread Joanne.
1) I'm also self employed so this week I will print leaflets out to get more clients. Started printing 300 leaflets
2) Phone my local college every day to see if they have their course lists out. If I do another course I can offer more treatments. Phoned college and have been put on mailing list
3) Sort clutter in house to sell / donate to charity etc. If everything was tidy I wouldn't waste so much time looking for stuff and i'd have more time to donate to my business.
4) Do all online surveys etc that I get emails about.
I will acheive all of these and I will get three new clients this month.
Have a good and productive week xxJanuary budget
