Clothes making the OS way!

Now, I'm no seamstress. I can sew on a button and fix a falling down trouser hem with good old WundaWeb but clothes making? Not.
However, I love clothes and fashion but I hate the costs. I buy a lot of stuff from Primardi if I want high fashion stuff on a budget but I'll shell out on stuff I absolutely love. My problem is that I rarely find stuff I love. My fashion icon would be, believe it or not, Rose from Two and a Half Men! I've being saying for years that I should make my own clothes.
Apparently her clothes consisted of plain cardis, tees and skirts and the wardrobe dept. would dress them up with applique, embroidery, felt flowers etc. This is something I might just manage!
Can anyone point me in the right direction for sourcing supplies? Im not great at this kind of thing and don't know where to start. Im in Angus if that's any help.
TIA

Abakhan do an online shop, or your local haberdashers?
Even ebay at a push.0 -
Try ebay or etsy for items or Hobbycraft (but they can be slightly expensive)CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

I haven't clue abut Angus!
But I would go to your nearest large market. There is almost always a haberdashery stall or two with cheap accessories, ribbons etc.
I make customised scarves / stoles by buying cheap fabric (market again) or Asian fabric shops. Easy to do a quick hem.0 -
you can get haberdashery bits and bobs online. you can also get good quality clothes to put them on via ebay. my DD gets a lot of her 'designer' labels there. some of them have never been worn.
if you cant sew well, then you can use products such as 'no sew' or any adhesive labelled 'fabric glue' to apply patches or applique, some will also stick sequins, beads etc.0 -
Thanks for the tips everyone. I had a ball on Ebay today and bought felt flowers, lengths of pompoms in various colours, butterflies, flowers - you name it! I can't wait for everything to arrive!0

there's a good shop for buttons and material (or used to be - been there years) halfway down Peter Street in Dundee, the pendie that goes from the Murraygate next to M&S down onto the Seagate.0

Ooh, I'll nip in there sometime! Thanks!0

I found some amazing fabrics - one with VW minibuses all over it! A skirt or shift dress made with that would be cool!0
