I wouldn't go near them with a barge pole. They are the worst company I have ever used (as a customer!)

In fairness, I used them recently for a small, fragile and high-value package. I did not read any reviews but chose them because they were cheap (a lower price for a slower service, and I did not need speed). Everything was fine, and I was very pleased with the whole experience.

    Varied.
After work-related expenses, maybe around £850 per month on average..
Maybe more just before Xmas (but longer hours) and less in February-April.

I did have an old car initially that required a lot of repairs (always at a bad time!).

My area was a pretty good one too. Suburbs of Norwich (Hellesdon). Not much mileage between drops and no parking problems. Pleasant customers mainly - you tend to get regulars in this job.

You really need an estate car at least (preferably a van or people-carrier). In the last few months I had a Toyota Avensis estate but still struggled to fit in all the parcels.
Parcels were getting bigger as time went on (due to Hermes' increased emphasis upon chasing private traders' business). Private traders tend to chooser Hermes above Royal Mail (due to cheaper prices for larger parcels and Hermes not checking the size and weight of parcels). Means larger parcels for no extra pay.

A lot pf Hermes' depots only open for 1-2 hours a day. That means you can't go back to pick up parcels later in the day if they don't all fit in your vehicle the first time.

I suspect that Hermes will have problems in the fairly near future - their business model has been built upon increasing business at cheap prices (and paying their couriers a !!!! poor rate). I believe there will come a point in the near future when they won't be able to increase their business (I believe for example, that Amazon have recently signed a contract with Yodel giving them extra business at the expense of Hermes). Their couriers are becoming increasingly fed up with being taken advantage of and therefore offering a slipshod service (not that it was ever that good). Hermes' whole business model seems to have been built upon increasing the number of clients they deliver for, regardless of the terms of the contract. Hermes just undercut the opposition. They are now trying to get couriers to work seven days a week, 52 weeks a year.
Couriers are going to get fed up with this. What do Hermes do then?

    My advice - avoid!

same like above. myhermes is the worst company to deal with. worst customer service, always they are right. i have sent a toilet cistern and after ten days , after i called to inquire why is not delivered they told me that is damaged. pieces of ceramic shard are protruding through the box. they told me that in the sorting warehouse they do not have humans and my parcel fell of from the convector belt. negligence is called. because is china i am mot liable for any compensation. i had to refund the money to the ebay buyer. at a present i have requested from my hermes pictures of the destroyed box, because i believe it's unbelievable to break that .they practically smashed it, this is what i believe. at a present i am searching the internet for idea how i can i fight against them. any ideas will be highly appreciated.

I know someone who is a field manager with Hermes and also know a few people who work as couriers under him. Also, I have myself helped out from time to time to cover if I happen to be free.

It very much depends on the area you are going to be working in, in my local area it is possible to make £2k/month or more and after a few weeks you will know the area really well so it will be possible to get your parcels delivered in half a day. This is the experience of the people I know but I know that some areas which are deemed to be lower milage the price per parcel may be lower.

It is true to say there difficulties as others above have suggested but if you are in a good area for doing deliveries it could end up being a nice little number.

HI to all who have had the misfortune to use myhermes .

Before I sent my parcel I checked the rules of what to send, sizes, etc and there was nothing written that said you cannot send picture frames containing glass. There was however a caveat stating that I couldn't send anything made either wholly or partially of glass. A picture frame does is not made either wholly or partially of glass , it contains a glass item unlike say sending a parcel containing a hundred wine glasses , made wholly or partially of glass, or a piece of glass itself... anyway... I send two identical parcels containing one large framed picture with a glass insert. Dutifully wrapped in masses of cardboard and bubble wrap with 'fragile ' written all over them, and indeed when the driver trned up he too was informed about the contents and said 'no problem' and they 'wont get damaged... anyway, on receipt, both frames, were totally destroyed, I mean smashed to pieces, not just the glass broken through mishandling but the wooden parts smashed in identical fashion. making a claim through the complaint proc was fruitless as myhermes continued to argue that the picture frame was 'made' of glass and did not simply contain glass. this resulted in one of the staff agreeing that it wasn't made of glass but did contain glass and therefore as glass was mentioned din the exclusions it wasn't covered... anyway,,, arguing more resulted in a member of staff phoning me and the basis of the call was that I was not going to be compensated regardless of the meaning of 'made of glass' or 'containing glass' so forget it and move on . I have now put this to my solicitor who agrees there is a fundamental difference between the two things - there have also been reports locally that parcels have been seen to be transferred between vehicles by one gy throwing the parcel into the other van regardless of contents or markings... not the best way to send your valuable goodies... I await the reply.

I've sent over 100 parcels via my herpes this year a number of them have been fragile not one has been damaged. For the price I can't fault it. Had collections and dropped off at a parcel shop.

Having worked for two of the worlds largest carriers in the past (UPS/DHL). You have to plan and pack for them to be thrown about and I'd never highlight them as fragile as that's red rag to bull territory.

2 parcels delivered yesterday, 1 hidden behind a bin (ok) and 1 on the garage roof that I had to use a stepladder and a large broom to get down. The delivery person had written:

"Sorry, 1 on roof, 1 behind bin"........ not quite sure why they thought the roof was a good idea!
