Steam mop cleaner

Hi All

I've seen threads for steam mops/carpet cleaners/multi purpose however I've started a new one as I'd like to see what's the best one now. I have young children, a dog, horses (not in the house :) but where we take our boots off etc does) and other small pets. I'd like something that I can do hard floors, tiles (handheld section) and maybe curtains/mattresses with - is there such an item and is it any good? Do I need to buy 2 separate items?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what your "hard floors" are.
I wouldn't use one on wooden floors, however well sealed, as even the slightest scratch would allow steam to get into the wood and cause problems.

I use my steam mop on the solid wooden floor in my bedroom and it works extremely well. Just make sure you follow instructions and don't use on laminate flooring. You don't want boards lifting.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fantastic on slate, porcelain and quarry tiles less good on wood (leaves smears) also freshens up carpets very well. I have a shark in one house (excellent) and a hoover in the other (also pretty good). I also have a shark hand cleaner (good for many purposes including grouting).

I've got the Morphy Richards one and it's great on the tiled floors and carpets, but I do find the hand held bit a bit unwieldy, it doesn't have the most comfortable handle.

Saying that, I find the hand held better on a small floor (the en-suite) rather than the mop.

    Hi,

I have also been looking into steam cleaners - anyone got any views on the Thane H20 X5 steam cleaner? Seem to be mixed reviews out there, people either rave about it or complain bitterly! Anyone tried it out? I liked the look of it but am a bit unsure now. Was hoping to use it mainly to clean a tiled kitchen floor, and the hand held option to clean the windows inside the conservatory and in the bathroom. Alternatively do people have a different product they swear by?

    Any suggestions/comments very gratefully received.

    Thanks

Vax one was on offer in B&M and I am sure it was 24.99. I have a really cheap one and considered upgrading. Mine is: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOLMES-STEAM-CLEANER-MOP-TILING-LINO-LAMINATE-FLOORING-/141255892116?pt=UK_Vacuum_Cleaners&hash=item20e381dc94 and does the job but I only have the hard floor in kitchen and bathroom.

I have the x5 and love it! It has not failed me yet and since I`ve had it we have had no sickness bugs - I`m convinced its due to the steam cleaner LOL!

Only thing I found was the white cleaning pad you get isn't enough and you will need more then just the one it comes with.

I have not had any problems with it, but know some people have had to get replacements after replacements so keep your receipt as Robert dyas replace them there and then if you have a receipt.

Thanks everyone! Just to confuse matters I have also been looking at Vax who seem to be having an on-line sale, for £109.99 you get:

Steam Fresh Combi 15-in-1 Steam Cleaner PLUS Accessories Worth £232
1 x Steam Fresh Combi Multifunction 15-in-1 Steam Cleaner was £179.99, now £94.99
    1 x Total Home (Type 1) Microfibre Cleaning Pads - 50% off - Was £39.99 Now £19.99, package price £10.00
    1 x Vax Spring Fresh Steam Detergent 1L - Was £12.99 Now £6.49, package price £5.00

I bought a Vax upright vacuum cleaner in their garage sale before Christmas and it has been brilliant, so I think this is the one I'll go with. Vax have been around for ages so getting replacement mop heads etc. should be good for years to come plus I have yet to find a bad review of it!
    Thanks again
