Rosacea Foundation

Hi all,

I developed rosacea around a year ago, and have been on medication since then. However I have a pretty much constant flare on either side of my nose and to a lesser extent on my cheeks. I have been using Lancôme for a number of years, however I don't feel it suits my skin anymore.

I need to buy new foundation but I'm struggling to find one that suits me. I did receive samples from rosacea uk, but it was really very light and didn't give enough coverage. I don't want to look like I'm caked in make up, but since I work in a customer facing role I do need a foundation that will over decent, long lasting coverage for my skin type.

So as I'm trying to avoid making a costly mistake, I'm hoping to get recommendations from other women with rosacea. What foundations have you found works best ? Thanks :)

I have mild roseaca and only found things that cause mine to go nuts. The sun, rose oil and any product with enzymes usually cause the rash to flare up or the spots to come out.

I actually use concealer under my foundation on my red areas(round the cheek area) to tone them down. To be honest you do not need to totally cover it, a little redness is natural for many people anyway. Yellow based helps tone down redness Ariana Poole does a palette of concealer all yellow based and that is what I use.

I know Clinique do a foundation for redness, but I hated it. Made my skin itch. You could try some of the mineral foundations the powder ones. I don't like them myself but loads swear by them. At the moment I am using the new Eve Lom foundation, I was colour matched and given samples in SpaceNK.

I have rosacea myself and find make up a problem. I get very dry patches sometimes (a bit of eczema thrown in with the rosacea!) Have you tried using the green cover sticks or lotions that you can buy under foundation? They tone down the redness and you don't end up looking like Shrek!

Which skincare products do you use to avoid enzymes? Is there a specific brand? :)

No not really. I just read the ingredients and ask if they have enzymes in the product. I found Argan Oil was brilliant and REN Evercalm range too.

I've had rosacea for a number of years now. The biggest thing you can do is find the triggers, which may, very annoyingly, change.

The usual suspects are sunlight, shampoo and toiletries, make-up, washing powder. Diet has a huge impact on your skin. I cut out all the obvious ones, but was still getting stomach ache and red skin. It was the bananas. Evil, evil bananas.

Try rinsing your face with water mists. I use Avene. Tap water is just far too harsh. This really does make a difference.

shu uemura mousse bases are fab - spf and act as foundation. you only need a tiny amount applied with the proper brush. Highly recommended.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My rosacea was diagnosed about a year ago too. I have facial AND occular rosacea and I'm proud of the fact most people look amazed when I say I have rosacea and I have to show my doctors the photos of the flares I got before diagnosis and getting the right products for me to 'prove it' my eyes I've not got under control yet and I get small flares occasionally.

I have stopped using anti aging products for the time being. :(.

I use avene cleanser, aveeno moisturiser and heal gel.

Foundation......I have swapped to this product

http://uk.spacenk.com/bb-venom-skin-tint---medium/MUK200008628.html. None of my foundations suit. This doesn't cause flares. I preferred another bb cream from space nk (the ginseng one) over all, but was causing flares.

Recently I have found this a little bit dry, so might need to look again at something. But otoh I don't do things I used to like oil, deep moisturingg masks etc. my skin isn't porcelain perfect but its better than lots of people's, and far better than the other roascea sufferers in my family. I am unable for health reasons to take the oral antibiotic medication and prescription rosex (topical) while ok for flares was leaving my skin very dry, I find heal gel vastly superior.

One bottle of the bb cream has lasted me for a long time.

I also use a sonic are brush with the most delicate brush. Over done this is DREADFUL and aggravating! got just right I find it perfect! For me I find once daily fine.

The most expensive part of the regime is heal gel which I use a lot of (at least once daily).

I am really pleased with this regemin. I would like to find masks I can use again and while I have decent skin as far as wrinkles go I would like to find something I can tolerate preventatively.
