Absolutely - there's a legal requirement for a cooling off period, just contact trading standards first thing tomorrow to confirm it.

This is from the trading standards website:

Can you cancel your credit agreement?
    • Signed on trade premises
Credit agreements signed at the trader’s premises are not cancellable once both you and the finance company have signed the documents. At this stage they become legally binding on both parties.
You may, however, have a very short window of opportunity to withdraw from the deal if the lender has not yet signed their part of the agreement. In these circumstances, you should telephone the lender immediately to establish whether the agreement has been signed. If not, inform the lender you wish to withdraw. Make a note of what was said and the name of the person you spoke to. You should then confirm your withdrawal in a letter. Send it by recorded delivery and keep a copy. Once you have withdrawn, you are entitled to a refund of any deposit you have paid.
    • Signed at home
You have a statutory right to a cancellation period if you signed your credit agreement away from the trader’s business premises, e.g. you signed at home, and you talked to the seller about the deal face-to-face (rather than only on the telephone). The agreement should contain a notice of your cancellation rights.
When you have signed the agreement, it will be sent to the finance company for an indication of the company’s acceptance of the deal by adding an authorised signature to the agreement and sending you a second copy through the post. The cancellation period runs from the date you signed the agreement and ends five days after you received either the second copy signed by the creditor, or a separate notice of your cancellation rights. In such circumstances, it is essential that you act quickly and notify the lender immediately in writing that you wish to cancel. If you have not been given notice of your cancellation rights, the agreement is unenforceable. Keep copies of any correspondence you send and obtain proof of postage.

If the cancellation period has expired
Once you have signed the credit agreement and any cooling off period has ended, any rights you may have to cancel your agreement will be included in your contract and will depend on the type of credit you took out.
    • Credit card agreements can be cancelled by writing to the creditor and making arrangements to repay any money you owe.
Its me thats put the above text into red, where I think its relevant. I found it by going to www.tradingstandards.gov.uk and using the search facility. Even tho it sounds like he's "signed" his copy, he hasn't acted on it (because you haven't told him what background you want, the order *can't* have been placed with the lab. So however you try to cancel, do it tomorrow, and do it in writing, recorded delivery. Good luck!

You will do no such thing - you will call and state that you wish to cancel the order as is your right, considering that he has not yet placed the order at the lab.

WOW £1800 on photos? I don't come in here that often but thats a shock I can't sleep nd Im reading what ever is available to be at 2 am.

Phone them and cancel at the soonest possibility, their clause in their agreement is unreasonable, saying that you can not cancel, Trading standards will back you up on this If you are unsure give them a call but just tell the phot place you wish to cancel as you no longer want the photos. The "lab" wont have started anything as it takes 6 weeks to do them !!!!!! why does it take 6 weeks to print/develop and frame the images? I have had stuff framed in studios in the past with custom made frames in oddball sizes and it has taken 8 days was the longest.

Take the free one if you want it but don't let them presure you in to buying anything they came to you and you fell for the trap, its just like timeshare sales while your on holiday you think the idea of having the place over there is fantastic and its only when you get home that the deal isnt as good as it sounded. £250+ for a photo, if you really want some photos taking find a friend who is interested in photography and they will normally take shots of you and the kids, I have used a bed sheet over a door in the past to create a back ground there are loads of ways to make photos look great for not a lot of money, you can buy a lighting system for a few hundred if you want to loose shadows etc its a lot less even if you buy that as a thankyou for the photos the guy took for you.

Good luck in the morning dealing with these guys.

We almost fell for that with Ventura. did exactly what polo2k did. Although got to admit it was a tough decision not to spend big. Photos were really nice - made my wife looked like one of those on America Next Top Model and even ugly me looked like Will Smith. I am glad that my strong willpower prevail on that instance - but wife wasn't pleased with the decision. We would have still been paying it now:beer:  .

The big boss at the office has couple of the family photo giant ones hanging on his office wall. He is worth £175 million and own about 20% of a company with a £500 turnover. We can see how he can afford them:rotfl: :rotfl:

So cancel the order and get your deposit back. I can bet my life that the photos haven't gone to print yet. The selfish guy is only thinking of the commision he is going to lose if you decide to pull out.

Besides it's within your right to cancel within 14days.

Also if the order is going to take 6 weeks to deliver, why are the photo's at print now. Should that be the case, I say they should be with you within a week! Get my point?

I would definitely cancel or reduce the order to as little as possible so you don't loose the deposit. It would be worth explaining to the guy that you really cannot afford it and are worried you would default on the credit agreement. Hopefully they will listen to you.
I got my free photo of my cat this way but was not tempted by the photos as they were awful. Guess it would have been different if it had been off my own children. Good luck.

I feel awful for you... I used to be so worried about saying 'no' to people - my husband isn't it though and I have learnt alot from him.

Could you get a male to pretend he's you bloke or something and cancel for you,if you can't face it?

I can't get over the price - my whole wedding album was nowhere near that price and it's stunning - I'm so proud of it and there's about 120 photgraphs in it!

Having been to one of those sessions I can totally understand how you got sucked in (& I'm normally very assertive!); they really are into the hard sell! Luckily for me what saved me was the fact that I didnt lke the photos and the bloke annyoyed me so managed to leave with the one I liked, although my mum wasnt as lucky!!
Just ring & cancel. Say you CANNot afford it, very sorry and that you may come back when you can afford it because you really liked the photos but DONT be pressured into keeping them & I would put it in writing as suggested above. With people feeling the pinch I suspect these type of companies are feeling the pinch & wouldnt put it past them to "forget" your cancellation if they could, relying on the fact that you will feel awful if the photos have been done & would pay up!!
Let us know how you get on! Big hugs and dont worry - we've all been there or we wouldnt be here!!!

I was considering one of these sessions once & emailed them (Venture) to ask how long they kept the negatives (or prints on pc etc) if I couldn't afford to buy many at first, but wanted to order more later & they said 12 months. Perhaps if you suggest that you may order at a later date so you are effectively just suspending the majority of the order (even if you buy 1 for now) that may be achieveable..... then you can just 'forget' to re-order further down the line.
