cooking pressed cod roe

DD2 loves the cod roe that you can buy in the chippy, so, to save some money, I bought a large tin of it, problem is, I am not sure how to cook it and for how long:o

I don't have a deep fat fryer, so I was wondering whether I could just slice it and grill it:confused:

When I worked in a chippy many moons ago they would did it in batter and fry for 5 mins - turning during frying. Could you not put some oil in a pan and do it that way?

    Thanks for that Shell,

If it has to be fried, I think I will try doing it without batter (she always peels it off) and maybe cook for 10 mins on a gentle heat so it doesn't burn.

I was worried about not cooking it for long enough, but if it only takes 5 mins in chippy, I guess that I haven't got too much to worry about.

My ex-MIL used to slice and grill it and have it with buttered toast, but I have to say I never fancied it myself. There was a woman on cooking TV channel today making taramsalata with cod roe - she mixed it with soaked white bread, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil.

I think that taramsalata is made from the soft roe:confused: , I tried that once when my nan came to stay with me, I thought it would taste the same as the pressed stuff, boy was I wrong_pale_ , never again!!
