Please don't take this as a criticism, but the protein defiency angle was the one my GP stated as his main objection to outright veggies status for children.. so the fish might be a really good idea right now. (the advice was given 20 years ago so qualified on that)
Hoped you get this sorted soon.HLK

That's pretty outdated now, I think. Most of us actually eat quite a lot more protein than we need to, and especially now we have such a wealth of high protein veggie foods (tofu, Quorn, etc) that weren't as available back then, getting enough protein really isn't a problem for veggies as long as they have a balanced diet.0

We're a vegetarian family and I don't worry about nutrition now - they all consume milk, cheese, fruit, veg ... and chocolate! None have any health problems, bar occasional patches of eczema for son3. What I did when they were younger with smaller appetites, I was more careful These are some of the things I did as and when I could afford to or what I would try now:
1) Make cakes (eggs) rather than have biscuits
2) Buy sacks of almonds from a health food shop, whizz them and add to crumble, pastry, cakes etc
3) Make a tomato sauce, add pulses and veg, then liquidise to serve with pasta etc or as a pizza topping
4) Peanuts instead of crisps
5) Cheap oranges from the market at 4pm on Saturday juiced
6) Apples and other fruit sliced got eaten quicker than whole fruits. Pieces of apple, cubes of cheese and a few grapes was a favourite lunch
7)Home made custard with lots of eggs and meringues with the whites
8) Grow herbs -even now my kids pick a handful of parsley as they walk past it
We've all thrived on a veggie diet -it is possible.0
