Any recommendations for home treadmill?

Looking to buy a good treadmill for use at home. Folding would be good (but not essential as it is going in the garage). I'd like one that allows me the option to set a distance, monitor time/speed/distance, change the incline and has some sort of cushioning.

I was looking to spend around £500-800, a finance option would be a good thing but not necessary. For example, fitness superstore or powerhouse fitness have some possible options - the nordic track range or the profrom ifit. Any recommendations on brands that you have and are really pleased with?

We have a Kettler one, we've had it several years, it's goes up to 10% incline and we've never had any problems with it.

Have you thought about buying second hand off Ebay?

Thanks guys - I'm looking to get the Nordictrack T9.2 as its on special offer this week from Fitness Superstore for £699. I'd rather buy one new and get the warrenty with it given that I know I'm going to use it (I used to run 5-8km 3 or 4 times a week until I fractured my foot 2 years ago and have been waiting until it felt strong enough to slowly start again). They are doing 0% over 2 years which works out £26 per month so looking good (I could pay all in one go but better the cash sit in my offset mortgage account if there's a 0% offer!). As Saxonman said...much better than paying for a gym!

You could save a fortune by buying a second hand one. I paid £1000 for mine (forget the exact model off the top of my head but it was a Reebok one) and sold it 2 years later for just £400 on Ebay. It had hardly been used so someone got a real bargain!

It might be cheaper than a gym but it's only ONE item and not one I'd consider a significant item in the fitness stakes. There are far better ways of getting fit and increasing muscle tone than endless hours running on a treadmill, hence why I sold mine and invested the money in weights, kettlebells, TRX system, ViPR equipment etc.

If I was ever to buy another cardio machine for home use it would be a decent quality rowing machine. I rarely use a treadmill in the gym these days either although if you're a keen runner then maybe you do prefer using one. I'm not and I don't ;)

Definitely a keen outdoor runner here and I specifically want to build back up to running 5k 3 times a week and a longer run at weekends. In all honesty, kettle bells and weights bore me to death. At the moment, due to living in a particularly rainy dull part of the country, indoors suits me as well as not knowing how well my foot will hold up to longer runs - better to do these on a treadmill and work my way up than get half way round a run and have to limp home!

I have been looking at 2nd hand ones but a lot of cash to pay without a warrenty and not knowing if it will go belly up soon. Plus they all want collection which is an issue withuot a van

You got my share of running - I find it immensely boring and love kettlebells and barbells :)

My ex got a good deal on a treadmill/cycle pack at Argos. Cost him £600 for the paid and they're still going strong 5 years and a house move later.

We have a York Fitness t202, unfortunately discontinued now. Cost £600, has been used extensively by two very obese people to do the Couch 2 5K and now used for by me for 4-5 5k jogs a week (wife now runs outside, I'm not quite ready for that as I need the extra cushioning provided by the treadmill).
We also have a Concept 2 rowing machine, not cheap but the Rolls Royce of rowing machines.

I ended up getting something quite similar Richard - a NordicTrack T9.2 for £699 which has cushioning too. Couch 2 5k worked really well for me when i started running a number of years ago and it's what I plan to do again! Running outside is lovely if the weather is nice but at the moment, its always too cold and rainy so the treadmill will be great.

This is my favourite rowing machine. We use them in the gym.
