Tuesday 4th March - what small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending...:money:

Hi to all of the regulars and a BIG welcome to all the newbies, this is a really FAB thread with so many lovely, caring, considerate and supportive people.

  • Morning folks - needed a quick reminder about why I am cycling to work again!!

    Todays must dos:
    • Expenses Form. Got all the info I need. Shoot me if not done tonight!
    • Cycle to and from work
    • No milk in the house (preserving NSD yest) so waiting for a cuppa until I get to the office. Also showering there! See, cycling saves in all sorts of ways!
    • There was 3 inches of water in dehumidifyer after I had on all night (using cheap elec). Will do this again next time I'm home with no guests. For today, window is open and loft hatch down . Please dry!
    • Washing onto the line
    • Lunch is already at work - took yest - just need to take some bread for toast. Using up the cheap stuff!
    • Shopping at Aldi on way home - just milk, fruit juice, fruit, cereal.
    • Guest staying tonight so will be doing the bedroom and bedding shuffle again.
I think that is all! Have a great day everyone x

  • Waves hello - two threads - happens sometimes!

Richt = I need a boot up the derrier.

    Need a list

    Done banks
    Paid CC's
    Hung up bedding
Had pancakes :D more later :D
    Had a bath
    Walked mutts here
Phoned about car which has a comedy fix, but as it didn't involve a new clutch I'm a bit embarrassed but happy.

    To do
Tidy up room upstairs and get rid some bags
Make a shepherds pie for tomorrow
    Take out fish for tonight
    Soup for lunch
Tidy up more books (yes more books)
    Another load of washing
Box up summer clothes for Mr RG's house
Finish a job application after I talk to a mentor about it - great job hourly rate is not good (ie almost half of what I'm on now) so have to talk to mainland garden guru and see if its a step in a good direction to consider too.
    Tidy up
    Fill up log baskets
    Bathrooms to sort
    Floors to sweep/mow
    Car to collect
DD insurance on said car to sort (EEK)

    Well that's a start huh?

Also need to think about how much I need for monthly spends (I don't have a scooby) but cheery's post made me think about it.

I have a sum of money left in bank which is to cover dd's petrol and grub and obviously treats.

    Any thoughts most welcomed........

Do I restart a 'me' budget? Then I might be able to see what else I can put to the cards but right now I've left an overly generous (by my standards :D) amount in the current account to see how I get on whilst actually a bit of that might be able to go to the card?

Ponders whilst cracking on with something, its nearly twelve and thus far a pancake and a bath is all I've actually acheived.

Shakes head, that just won't do!
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
    :money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

    Morning everyone.

Just reflecting on last nights shopping :(
A bag of Andrex 24 rolls £9 and half a large bag of shopping = £52.84 spent.
    Bodyform x2 £5
2 x Colgate toothbrushes £4 (for when "mum, have you any spare toothbrushes?")
    Bold 2 in 1 gel £4

Grated cheese 2 packs for £5 and the OH choose £3.50 of nibbling cheese for himself.

£10.59 adult DD's shopping list - she pays a little rent.

Well that left £11.75 for the food shopping. Good job I have a store cupboard and some things in the freezer.

You may all wonder? Husband said " thats it! you have had the shopping money for the week.

I did pick up the Finest Bucatini pasta with FREE coupon as part of the Orchard trial. Will be making a spaghetti in the week. I have mince in the freezer.

    Oh well, the day continues.....

I had an email from Clix global research this morning. The first trial for this year. It is a body wash trial.

    Completed some surveys.

Whats for dinner = sausages, b, beans and jacket potato.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
  • Hi all,

Hope you've all had a good day! Been a mad busy one for me today but the beauty of it is that it was someone's birthday at work and they brought in so much cake that I ended up indulging in a big way then felt far too full for any dinner (did manage a couple of pancakes though!!) DH is out with customers tonight so that's a free tea for him too, bonus! Made fish fingers, rice, peas and sweet corn from the freezer for the kids then did the pancake session for pudding (made with half water, half milk). Had a spare one so I spread some supermarket own brand version of 'Nutella' on it, rolled it up, and DD1 is taking it for pudding in her packed lunch tomorrow, she's thrilled to bits!!

Other than that, I had a packed lunch at work, and all packed lunches are made for tomorrow (x 3 people).

Shattered now so might get off for an early night.

    Soopa x

  • Evening all..I forgot the little smily face thingy - sorry! Looks like we ended up with two threads. Being a social butterfly I intend to post on both! Controversial!!!

Hello Ikemummy...I am enjoying my third cuppa of the evening! Much cherished after the drought of yesterday. It did make me think about wants vs needs though.

Please do rollick me as I still haven't got expenses in. Nearly went back in after switching computer off etc but decided getting home in the light was best as no lights working on the bike today. Made it to aldi but queue was shorter in iceland so gave them a go. Milk £1 4pt, Kitkat multipack £1 for 5 (:o), Squash £2 for big Robinsons one, 2 x Soreen for £1.

Not quite the streamlined list I went in with, was it!! Felt slightly better on reflecting that not that long ago, a I'm home alone tonight treat splurge might have included a large Toblerone which costs many £ more than my kitkats! (wouldn't have eaten all in one night, but maybe a few days!). Now I have KitKats and feel too guilty to eat them! Saving for a much needed pick me up later in week.

Goodadvice, I get a bit frustrated when all those housey bits need to be bought - somehow they all run out at the same time! They come from my food budget usually but I think I may need to review that.

Hope pancakes are going down well everywhere :) Mine are tomorrow when DD is home :) We love our pancakes - usually have them as a treat breakfast on Friday to get us through the last day of the week. I enjoy this time as DD can make them from scratch, and the time it takes her is just right for me to blitz washing up or kitchen jobs, then we cook them (american deep ones) and take in turns to eat, just leaning against the kitchen worktops (no space for a chair in there!) Its probably the time I get to hear most about how her week is going :j
Good luck reviewing your categories Pippi - and with that huge list of jobs. Off to catch up on t'other thread now xxx
