credit file clean up

I,m approaching my six years since bankruptcy in May 2014. I have incorrect entries recorded on my file from British Gas after my bankruptcy and house repossession. These are dated 2011.

I have lodged a complaint with B.Gas and they have responded in a friendly and timely manner. They are keen to help me resolve this error, but my problem is I cannot find any paperwork to confirm when my house was repossessed.

Is there any way I can check with either the court or the mortgage lender to help me confirm this?

Any help and advice you may be able to give, will be gratefully received.

    Hi Beaky67,

My 6 years is up on 18 April - I've cleared up my credit files (taken ages - especially with some of the stubborn creditors!) so when the magic date comes my credit files should be a couple of pages lighter!

Sorry to hear of your issue - do you have a copy of your discharge certificate (either by the court or from a letter from the official receiver)? This should be sufficient information for British Gas to amend their records if it is just an incorrect default date showing on your files.

As well as writing directly to the creditors I also raised queries directly with the credit reference agencies (all 3) so I could double my chances of information being corrected.

If all of this still fails then perhaps you would need to contact the mortgage provider to provide written confirmation of when your repossession was (although again not sure why British Gas would want to know that info).

    Hope that helps

    Hi Colmac71,

Thank you for your reply. Good to hear your nearly at the end of your 6 years and hopefully all this behind you.
The problem I have with B.Gas, is that they seemed fit to dump an amout supposedly owed from when the house was repossessed till it was sold, on my credit file in 2011 as default and then settled in 2012. This was magically added to my credit file in october 2013.
The property was actually sold in oct 2008, but because of their incompetence I now have to prove to them when the house was repossessed to have this corrected or I face having 2 defaults on my file until 2018!

With hind sight I should of kept everything, but there comes a time when your doing your normal filing of bank statements etc that you dont want to be reminded of what you have lost every time you have a financial tidy up. So theres me thinking with 1 year to go till my 6 years, to burn everything and look forward to 2014 being brighter. So now even with 10 weeks to go, im yet again having to fight to clear my file.

If we could charge them for the time it costs to correct thier incorrect entries they may be more careful of what they record, instead of dumping what they like to cause maximum pain.

The sooner I can get this done and all this behind me the better. I dont know how your 6 years has been, but I have found it difficult at times with the battles you have to face to keep correcting and tidying up your credit files etc.

Thanks again and to any newbies, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
