    What I am saying is (and I guess you still don't get it) is that 10K or more is 10K you WONT have if you don't join the pension. So you could ADD that to any savings you have to retire better or retire earlier.

    And if you dont say what you have (ie all these extra savings you mention) then we have to assume the amt is 0.

    And you can put more into your pension, up to your entire salary's worth if it is less than 40K. And still get tax relief. So you could boost the value of those savings overnight. Should you wish to.
