Credit Reference Agency problem...

I got ED in Sept 2010. Since then I have had nothing in my name except a phone contract. All payments and the paying in of wages are through an account in my wife's name. I thought I'd have a look at my credit file by joining one of the usual agencies, but they ask for a bank account number to verify identity! I don't have one....Can't get one....What now? Any ideas welcome....

  • When you say you can't get a bank account is there a reason for this, beyond the bankruptcy? I've not heard of someone being able to get a basic account from Barclays or Think etc.

Can you get the standard £2 paper reports by post. They may require something to verify identity, but they cannot specifically insist that it MUST be a bank account. If you can prove your identity with other documents then they will be breaching the law by withholding your file from you.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't had an account since BR and Santander said they wouldn't give me one until 6 years after discharge. I assumed this would be the same with all banks. To be honest there aren't many that weren't creditors in my BR anyway! I'll keep trying though...
  • Barclays offer undischarged bankrupts accounts. Some on here have had them as a creditor and opened accounts whilst undischarged too.
Placed like Think Money will offer a managed account, but will charge you for it.
Barclays is free and they were great when I opened my account. No problems at all and very straightforward.

No problem for me to open a Barclays basic account as an undischarged BR and they were in my BR too.

The basic account is more than adequate for getting your wages paid in to and you get a visa debit card but no cheque book. As you are a discharged BR you will get online banking too

Barclays and some others definitely will. In fact most basics accounts should be OK after discharge. Shop around.
