Can anyone tell me where to buy a decent cheapish garden shredder. The best I can find is a homebase and its £44.99. thanks for any help.

I assume in this case the "best" means cheapest.
Unfortunately with garden shredders cheap is a waste of cash. This machine will be a single blade impact shredder, please please dont waste you money on it. it will be next to useless you would be better of spending the time cutting up the waste by hand.
....Happy to be proven wrong but after doing a lot of research on these things i found the only ones worth getting were the corkscrew or gear type and needless to say they are relatively expensive

I have loads of laurel bushes that need pruning and thought that this would probably be the best method to get rid of all the cuttings, I will certainly have a look around now and check if the shredder can actually handle the amount I have, Thanks for your advice.0

Hi Marbella,
If is just for a one-off job, or very occasional use, you may be as well checking out any local equipment hire shops in your area to see if they've got a heavy duty one to rent at a reasonable price for a day or two.
Good luck,

Try your local council too. My mum's let you book for someone to come round and do the shredding for you. Its to encourage people to recycle their garden waste. I'm pretty sure they didn't charge her as it was part of her waste collection scheme.0

We had quite a posh one that someone gave us but it was useless (which was probably why they gave it to us in the first place) so we always hire one when we need it. But the one we hired 3 weeks ago was £50, so it wasn't a cheap option - and it kept jamming and stalling. Even the hirer warned us that shredders were notoriously difficult to use. We only had narrow (2" max) branches from a willow but DH must have used up a few million calories by the time he shredded them all.0

I'm afraid that I have to agree. We have hired in the past but recently took the plunge and bought one from ebay. I got a 'silent' gear type for £87 ( new is over £200) , but I had to wait 6 months for the right type and price to come up, the competition for the good ones is really fierce.alanobrien wrote: »I assume in this case the "best" means cheapest.
