Quick question as i've been searching online and cannot find anything definative.
Can anyone, from any sector join a union? Or are they sector specific?
Bottom line, both myself and a work colleague are both private sector employees within sales / purchasing and have some grievancies that ACAS have partially resolved but would require representation.

Anyone can join a union, although you would be best to join one with experience of your sector simply because they will be better placed to deal with issues. However, if you have grievances for past issues you may well find that some unions will be reluctant to represent you, on the basis that you've only joined because there is an issue and once that's resolved you might leave.0

This will help you find the most appropriate union to join: http://www.worksmart.org.uk/unionfinder/
However it's unlikely that any union will want to represent on a pre-existing case. Join up now, so that next time you have a problem you will have access to advice, support and representation.0
