Turn up for job interview?

Dear all

Got myself in a work situation, whereby I'm not really sure what is the best path to take work-wise. My situation is as follows;

I've been working in telephone based sales for a vehicle firm for around 18 months now, the wage isn't great and I have considerable overheads, plus I'm catching 6 buses per day just to get to and from work. At the moment for the deals I gain for the company, which generate company profit of around £257 average each, I'm being paid just 75p.

By contrast my colleagues are getting paid £2.50 -£3 each deal, which is pretty much the same work as I'm getting. Some of them come out with £2000+ in commission alone, whereas my average is around £200. They also have other bonus schemes which I am excluded from.

I've known about these differences for around a year now, and I've tried to compensate by working harder, doing twice as many calls etc to the extent that I'm at a point where I feel I will make myself I'll with stress/worry.

I have in my spare time applied for a new position in the city, and I have a job interview tomorrow morning. Whilst I certainly feel like I've been thoroughly shafted by my current employer, for reasons unknown, I am uncertain about taking the risk. I am confident that the new position, if I get it, could offer more money and maybe even a better lifestyle and working hours, but can't help but feel slightly mean.

Has anyone any advice or perhaps experience of this situation?

Many thanks

Philip

    What risk? I'm presuming you've either already arranged for the time off or are pulling a sickie that you know you can get away with, so I don't see what risk is involved.

    As for feeling mean I can slightly understand the feeling of company loyalty, but no loyalty exists from them to you as they are showing by the pay difference, and if they did run into any trouble it's the people on your level that would be out the door first.

    Go the the interview, I don't see a reason why you wouldn't and only regret if you don't.

    You've given them 18 months, I am sure they'd like to get more out of their investment in you but its not like you're leaving weeks after coming out of training or such.

    Have you actually asked them how the different commission structures work?
