Teaching Assistant after PGCE?

Legally I could teach any subject at secondary (and primary, I believe) provided I could persuade the school that I would do it well. I teach maths whereas my degree was in music so it's utterly doable.
My old primary school teacher switched schools after many years and became a secondary English teacher so, again, it can be done.0 -

I have a friend who did the opposite, after teaching music at secondary school she decided to move to primary. She worked as a TA/supply for a year and convinced them she could do it.Sell £1500

My husband is a primary teacher and and every year he's been a teacher there has been a TA in the school who is a qualified teacher. So it happens. But normally they are experienced teachers.
You could say though that it's to gain sen experience though as that would be a valid reason.
My husband hated his pgce year, and his nqt year. He really struggled with work load. But it gets better every year and he really loves his job0 -
I studied to be a primary school teacher and several people in my cohort (including me in the end after final placement did me in) failed in one way or another so couldn't get qts. Some did go on to be a ta in school in the end and in a year or so time I am also thinking of trying to get a ta job in school. In regards to the 5 year time span to get your NQT year done I do believe it is still in place as a friend of mine in my original year won't get it completed in time so won't be able to teach even with supply come July which is rubbish for her as health hasn't been on her side.

I did the 4 years and should have stayed in a school for 2 years and then the same again but due to schools own problems ended up in 4 seperate schools. There are all different and some are definately a whole lot more supportive than others for sure. I'd suggest asking your mentor if you can shadow other classes to see how they are and how different teachers have different teaching styles and talk to your cohort as they will also find the same (which doesn't help you in the end of placement but may help you find coping strategies for placement as 6 weeks in some schools with the wrong support can feel like 6 years, especially when some schools treat you like an unpaid teacher/supply in some cases):T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:
