Dawtona Sauerkraut

Options
I used to buy sauerkraut from healthfood shop but found this in tesco for £1.19 for huge 900grams

Is it real fermented sauerkraut for £1.19 or is it just pickled cabbage. Surely thats too good to be true.

This Dawtona Sauerkraut comprises finely shredded cabbage that has been left to pickle in its own juices for a few weeks; the only added ingredient in this process is salt. The result of this process is the unmistakable taste of Sauerkraut.

BUT it's also going to be pasteurised so you won't get the health benefits of the real stuff.

I've only ever found pasteurised in the shops.

It's not difficult to make it at home.

Because the real stuff is still active with the bacteria that gives the health benefits while these are all killed off when the commercial product is pasteurised.
  • but its still healthy right? its still cabbage?

Yes, you get the same goodness as if you bought a cabbage.

    Approx 30p for 500g.
