csa changes 01/04/14

Options
Hi does anyone have any idea of what changes we are expecting from the csa as of april?
Someone has mentioned to me today that this payment will no be included as income where as it isnt at the moment?
Ive tried searching and all ive really come across is the £20 charge and that things will be worked out slightly differently. Does this mean we all have to re-apply or do our current cases continue?
Any ideas what changes are likely to affect?
Ive heard nothing from them as yet...

Who is someone though? Anybody can start a rumour.
  • There are no changes coming in April. The reason that you've not heard from them so far is presumably because none of the changes coming in would affect you currently.

The introduction of charging for new cases is currently scheduled to take place from later in the summer.

Current cases will continue. Depending on a few factors (such as whether there is an assessment currently in place, whether there are ongoing enforcement actions, whether the case is clerical, plus other things). If your case is on the new 2012 scheme then collection charging and the opportunity to change to direct pay for both parties will come in soon after the introduction of application charges. If your case is either on CS2 or CS1 then at some point in the next 3 years or so then you'll be contacted to say that your case will be closing. You'll have the choice to either apply on the new 2012 scheme or come to your own arrangement.

    ............................
  • It's not about making money, it's about getting those who use a service to contribute towards that service. The CSA is currently paid for entirely by the taxpayers (of which there are about 29 million in the UK), but only used by about 2 million people.
The introduction of charging is just a way of covering a fraction of the costs, and still leaves the vast majority of the costs paid for by the taxpayer.
