PC internal hard drive up to 40Gb

Options
Friend has an old pc, a pentium3 which has a 4Gb hard drive. Looking to replace the hard drive with something bigger. Looking for a cheap harddrive of any size up to 40Gb. A 10Gb will do but it depends which is value for money. I know the bigger the size the cheaper the harddrive Gb/£ ratio. Since he is only using for writing documents and maybe surfing the net later on.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

TBH if you want something that small, ebay's probably your best bet and you may have to get a used one.

If I'm refurbishing old machines for use as firewalls/mail servers etc I just go an buy the smallest new disk I can find, even though I may be wasting some space. This is simply because I don't really want to have the potential hassle with a used harddisk, especially when you keep in mind that you can get a decent 80GB disk for around GBP30 these days.

Totally agree with you. Have noticed 80GB going for a couple of pounds more than 40GB. I will convince my friend to go for the largest size within his budget. Although the old motherboard may only use part of the memory if he decideds to buy a new computer he can take this hard drive and use it as a slave drive after it's operating system has been removed.

which retailer supplies lower priced hard drives. It seems a lot of 'budget' drives are maxtor.
