Before I do this myself has anyone carried out a taste test on value tinned tomatoes?
I usually just buy the cheapest from Aldi or Lidl because I thought as I add other flavourings to them then the end result would be ok.
However, I noticed that Morrison's tomatoes are 2p cheaper so when passing the store bought a couple of tins.
Used my usual tomato sauce recipe yesterday and the flavour was much better. Even OH commented.
I realise that personal preferences play a part.
Interested in suggestions/comments.

No Morrisons nearby so can't try those but thanks for the tip.
I always go for cheapest (general about 3 for £1 unless a special) and add a pinch of sugar or sweetener if it's a recipe that's relying on tomato flavour. It's become a habit as I read somewhere that cheap tomatoes are inclined to be a bit bitter.
Mostly mine come from Aldi or Farmfoods or occasionally Asian grocer.0 -
I find the flavour and consistency varies from tin to tin, even the same brand, so just buy the cheapest (i get mine from Aldi) and add sugar as Maman does.0

I find cheaper tins can be watery compared to top brands. Just takes slightly longer cooking time. When I'm making a batch of food for freezer I use half tinned tomatoes and half passata - all the cheapest products available.
My lovely husband is convinced he can taste the difference, same with beans and quorn. I don't let him see the packaging and he is a happy man.:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0
