'Rust' Marks on Washing

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has ever had the same problem that I'm getting with my washing.
When i do a load of washing, especially white washing, Im noticing lightish brown 'rust' type marks / spots which stain the garments Im washing.
We have had 3 washing machines in the last 5 years, the most recent is probably no more that about 8 months old and it has started to do it again (the last machine we had an engineer out and he said he couldnt find a problem).
Im starting to wonder if it is the washing machines (as all 3 have done it, 1 hotpoint (which lasted 3 years before DS was born) and 2 zanussi's after DS was born and which the 1st was replaced by the manufacturer) or something more mechanical with the way its hooked up (which is in our brick type conservatory which our builder dug the drainage into when we moved in (5 years ago).
Any advise would be gratefully received as I love my clothes and cant afford new machines every year!
Thanks x

theres a screw or something metal in the space between the drum and housing, so it need disassembled to remove it.
Slim possibility is a screw sitting in the fold of rubber on the door seal, have a look, you might be lucky.go on, adopt a greyhound

The rust particles may be comming in from the mains water supply from 'old' pipes, the washing machine inlet valve usually has a mesh screen fitted to prevent larger particles getting in and interfering with the valve but the smaller bits will still get through.
Occasionally a bit will get into our the bath water, if you rub it between your fingers it breaks up easily but does leave a tell tail rust stain on your fingers.I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0 -
It could be rust, like this shows, but it's not something that we come across a lot TBH.
Another likely cause that it's to do with detergent use and/or loading issues, this is the common one for this complaint. .
The chances of it being the washing machine... virtually zero. The chances of it being several machines with the exact same fault, so small it beggers belief.
Water, yes, perhaps. But it would likely be a temporary problem, it wouldn't last for years IMO but it may be worth contacting the local water authority to see what they have to say.
