Other than that can you get some bar or restaurant serving work. Your union should have a vacancies board. Being a waiter/ess is useful because you'll get tips in cash immediately rather than waiting for your pay date.
Usually the require you get your loan paid into that account so I assume if the OP were to do that it would either fail or be rescinded quickly.0 -

Yes, I do rent a flat, I am definitely not a lodger.happycamel wrote: »Can you open another student account somewhere else and use the overdraft facility on that? When I was a student (admittedly over ten years ago) I had 2 student accounts each with an overdraft facility.

Like marliepanda had said, I wouldn't be able to open another student account and have an overdraft on it. My HSBC overdraft is currently maxed out at -2,000 pounds (spent my last ten pounds today), so there is no way another bank would let me do the same.
Also, I have been looking for a job for the past few months, I have made over 100+ applications but no luck so far. I had a temporary job as a waitress last term but the place got shut down so I lost it. Where I live there are a LOT of students, and the job market is very competitive. But I have been trying, genuinely.
On another note, I went to HSBC again today, and spoke about my overdraft situation to the sweetest guy, who was being really helpful and understanding. I explained my circumstances, he genuinely seemed like he wanted to help. He was really nice, he even brought the bank manager so I could speak to them myself, but she said that there is simply no way that the bank would lend me any more money so I shouldn't bother trying anymore. So that door's closed I guess.
I have a meeting on Wednesday with the Student Funding Unit who might be able to arrange some sort of Emergency Fund or something called a Short Term Loan Scheme, but we will see where that goes. I am also awaiting a reply from the Retention Fund, which would give me enough for the rent but unfortunately not in time (it would however reduce the rent delay by one week).
I have also been in touch with some family members (not immediate family), who have a lot of money, but my family situation is unfortunately very fragile, and I haven't been in contact with them for a long time. I feel pretty pathetic for doing that, but I am desperate and I am just trying to cling onto whatever I can. Like I said earlier, I will be back on track financially in July once I start my job placement, I just gotta last until then!
I'd like to thank everyone for their generous advice, you have put me at ease, especially regarding the flat situation. I believe I can get through this; it's just been ever so stressful... I'm in my third year now so the studies are quite intense (dissertation and all). I've been so worried and pre-occupied with my finances, I haven't given my degree as much attention as it deserves. I really hope to get back on track soon.. Please have your fingers crossed for me!0 -
Get in touch with your landlord.
If you've been paying steadily for the last couple of years, and you definitely have that money due, they'll understand. I know as I rent out and have accommodated this sort of thing before when tenants change job etc. For the sake of three weeks or whatever, you'll be surprised how accommodating they might be.
Certainly don't worry about being evicted as the advice given about two months notice etc is totally sound0 -
If you've been three years renting and have always paid on time I think the probability is very high that if you explain your situation to him (and maybe back it up with something in writing confirming you'll make payment on x date he'll accept that. Turfing you out, and getting the place ready for someone else to rent would be a hassle for him that will more than likely work out more hassle (and more expensive for him) than being three weeks behind on his rental income.I'm not sure, he's normally friendly, but in the almost three years of renting I have never been late with rent. I'm not sure what he gets like when he doesn't get his money."Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you...
