What the....

Academics have found a link between rising house prices and birth rates.
For every £6,000 added to the value of a property the number of babies born also rises by 5 per cent.
The average British home has increased by £14,000 in the past 12 months indicating that we could be about to see a new baby boom.
Researchers at the University of Maryland believe the phenomenon occurs because rising equity in homes make couples feel more secure and settled and so they begin to plan ahead.
Must have been at it like rabbits in 2006 then!"Our results provide clear empirical support for the idea that house prices impact birth rates in a statistically significant and economically meaningful way.
"We find that changes in house prices exert a larger effect on current period birth rates than do changes in unemployment rates."

Secure is a factor. Also if you have equity you effectively have a deposit for a bigger place if needed so moving is easier too.0

just been reading that the birth rate rose 2008-12/13 as there were fewer jobs and women chose to have babies as they couldn't find work
now they expect the birth rate to drop as jobs are increasing0 -
So secure, that if I wanted to move house (because i needed more space for another child) I'd need to put £80k on my mortgage and pay £15k in stamp duty
Genius idea!0 -
So if my house goes up in value by £120,000 we will have another kid ???
!!!!, that's blown my retirement plans right out of the water 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
Would monogamous boomers really want more kids?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I'd feel more secure if £120k of HPI dropped into my lap - my LTV would plummet.
Some people feel entirely differently and are maybe unaffected by the wealth effect. I know I'm not - I took my family out for a meal to celebrate the Vodafone deal - I won't see the cash for at least a decade because it's in a pension!0 -
Now that is forward planning !!!'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0
