Carpet brush to restore pile - any hints?

We have a deep(ish) pile carpet in the living room of our rented house which is getting a bit flat and scruffy. Think two people, one lurcher and two cats all running about. Was wondering if one of those stiff bristle carpet brushes is the way to go to kind of fluff up and restore the pile?

All hints and tips happily received!

I have used my steam generator iron, hovered over the pile to lift it . It works well and got out those dents from furniture legs. Just be careful not to actually touch the carpet with the sole of the iron.

but you need a saw - a long flexible wood saw
you grip the handle and tip and bow it out into a slight curve ...and comb the carpet towards yourself with it

no I didn’t make it up...someone in the carpet cleaning trade demonstrated this to me..and it works very well....

but don’t do it on looped carpets like burbers !

Steam clean will really help 'fluff up' the pile. you can buy small hand steamers quite cheaply if you don't mind being on your knees to steam the carpet. I have a large machine which cost about £60 and its a godsend. I use it to clean the oven too (I absolutely hate doing that and cant abide chemical cleaners). it also cleans tiles etc and most hard surfaces. I can steam curtains too. and it strips wallpaper.
