    Hello

I recently got a good deal on a £7K loan, to pay off a long-standing NatWest 'Business' £20K loan. Don't worry about the reason, but we are moving everything away from NW due to a series of mistakes...

I paid off the loan, over the phone, using my barclays debit card.
NW confirmed that the loan account has been closed.

Then.. ..NW put the full £7K back into my old NW current account!! Clearly by mistake.

I rang NW to confirm (again) that the loan account had ben closed - and it has. Paid off. Closed.

    Is that money now mine..?

If / When they realise their mistake - can they just take it back?

What if I take the money out.. ..and spend it?

Advice and/or suggestions would be great.

    Thanks.

What a dim-witted post and these people have the vote!

Relax peeps - did this really happen?
I will leave you to judge as OP has not as yet graced us with their presence to update us - will they ever??

This is the second time I have seen a similar comment from you in the last 3 minutes

Why does it matter if someone posts and doesn't post again for 6 months or never again? Do you not realise that many many more people read than post on any site and that the question one person asks is the same question many have? So they all get their answers without even posting.

I don't get what your point is. Not everyone wants to post all day on these sites; maybe the person asks a question, reads the answers then just trots on?

Why is it such a big deal to you if they do or don't? Just bizarre imo.
I am not offering advice, at most I describe what I've experienced. My advice is always the same; Talk to a professional face to face.

Debt - None of any type: Bank or any other accounts? - None: Anything in my name? No. Am I being buried in my wife's name... probably

There are many trolls on here posting stupid scenarios just to wind posters up - that is all I'm saying - wasting people's time.
  • I read with interest the replys to my original post. Thankyou to the genuine posters for their replys. You have reiterated what I thought.

To the sceptics and sarcastic posters - then I have little to say. Like most people with a job, I cannot sit in front of a browser every day, refreshing the page, relishing an online conversation.

I was generally looking for a different kind of advice. I didn't find it here. This is a shame, so I will shortly be removing my account and forgetting that I ever posted a question. (This will have been the first ever, and last ever forum posting that I have made on an open and anonymous message board.)

Please do not waste any more of your time on this thread. The posts will not be read. You might like to reflect the banner on the left of this post again.

    Thankyou, and goodnight.
  • You were looking to cash in to the tune of £7k for a small error on the part of the bank. If the kind of advice you were looking for is how you can keep the money you are not entitled to then this is the wrong place to be posting. You'll find most of the regular posters here have a moral compass.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • Keep the money, got for it.

When Natwest come looking for their money simply refer them to the advice on this thread and tell them tough luck the internet told you that you could keep the money so they have no comeback.

The OP has probably posted the same question on CAG and their sabre rattling debt ridden locals have probably told him how their version of the law allows him to keep/spend the money....hence why he doesn't like the answers on here.:rotfl:
