Sorry for the long rambling post, but I'm sort of venting too and lost track
 apologies!
So, I was with the same dentist from birth until the end of last year, and they were very dismissive of my concerns.
When I was pregnant with my second son my gums bled a lot, and I had a small hole in the back of one of my teeth where the enamel hadn't come through, but my dentist had refused to treat for many years. This eventually got bigger and was filled, a filling which fell out in 48 hours. This happened several times (filling, falling out quickly) due to where the hole was.
I was, however, told that all my other teeth were perfect and not to worry as the hole in the tooth likely wouldn't get bigger.
Eventually, it was hurting me to eat certain foods, and I developed a painful lump on the side of my gum by my left wisdom tooth.
My dentist couldn't see me for a week, so my mom got me in at her dentist.
This was 2nd December, and I was told that the lump was a small infection where my wisdom tooth was, and I was given antibiotics which solved it. I was told that I would have to have them taken out at a local hospital due to both of my lower wisdom teeth being impacted. Both have grown in at 90 degrees to my other teeth.
In the meantime, I had a root canal on my other tooth, and then later found out that the dentist only referred me for extraction after my final root canal treatment (5th Feb), rather than when the matter was initially discussed in December.
Now, last week the gum on top of my lower left wisdom tooth has swollen up and is infected. I have pain in my throat, cheek, ear and tongue from it, and I can't eat without being in lots of pain.
I was given a course of Metronodazole which did nothing, and now I'm on a course of amoxicillin, which again hasn't done anything so far. I'm using antibacterial mouthwash and applying TCP almost hourly, and taking anti inflammatories and pain killers, but it's having very little impact.
My dentist advised me to chase the hospital as there's nothing more they can do at practice level.
The hospital said that it will be another 12 weeks before my initial appointment with them.
I'm not quite sure what I can do in the meantime, and really cannot cope with this pain for another 12+ weeks.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for rambling.

Have you had the letter from the hospital? Or do you know which dept you have been referred to? If so you should be able to track down the secretary of who is to operate, I would ring them up, very politely but firmly explain just how debilitating the pain is and you may well be able to get an earlier slot. This worked for me and I saw the consultant last week rather than have to struggle through to my original date in May.If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation

            Who recommended TCP?
If the pain isn't controlled, you need to go back to the dentist, not ask advice on the internet.
Hospitals sometimes have late cancellations, and a list of patients available at short notice to fill them. Worth asking at your hospital if they do this? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I was told by the hospital that I wouldn't receive a letter for probably 10 weeks.
I tried explaining how much pain I was in but was told, quite simply, tough.0 -

TCP was recommended by a friend who said her dentist had advised her to rub the inflammation with a small amount of TCP on a cotton bud to help kill any bacteria.
I have been to my dentist and, as I say, was told there's nothing more they can do at practice level and that it's all down to having an extraction now.
I did ask about cancellations but was told they don't do this as I'd have to have a consultation first and that they don't offer cancellation appointments for those.0 -
If you're using it neat - it will probably burn causing tissue damage and increase the pain & swelling. I would never recommend TCP anywhere near the inside of the mouth.

I've been using one part TCP to 5 parts water. I was going to use it neat as recommended for mouth ulcers, but I have an open cut on the inside of my cheek so diluted it instead.0 -
I obviously don't know the full details of your impacted wisdom teeth but I assume you have been seeing an NHS dentist.
I say that because both my husband and I were under an NHS dentist and they would offload as much of the non standard work they could to the local hospital - and you would then spend months waiting to be seen.
I had a wisdom tooth which needed removing but after months of being messed around I chanced seeing a private dentist who told me it wasnt a problem to do in his surgery - definately no need for a hospital appointment. Yes it cost me around £150 including the initial check up, but it was well worth the price. Extraction done, no waiting and no stress of going to the local hospital (I hate hospitals).0 -

I was told that because it wasn't a simple extraction (my teeth have grown in at a 90 degree angle so the top of my wisdom teeth is pushing against the teeth in front and the roots go quite far back too, so it's likely I'll need them out under general. There is a private dentist at the practice, though, so I will make enquiries with him, thank you

Sorry OP, can't offer anything but sympathy but just wanted to add on the subject of TCP:
I also saw an online recommendation for TCP for toothache and I used it diluted with 5 parts water and although it did temporarily take the pain away, it left my teeth feeling very rough and eroded after and they still feel rough 3 days later. Also, once the pain-killing effect wore off, it left my gums sore. It does contain an acid so be wary.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0
