Cheap elopement to Scotland?

Options
We have decided to elope to Scotland one weekend next year with our children and get married. We would like to do it on around £1500 if possible, including accommodation for 2/3 nights.

I was thinking of trying to divide it into £1000 for wedding/accomodation/travel/food/drinks etc...

and £500 for the other bits.

We don't really fancy Gretna though. But there is just something about Scotland that I love!

But that's how a lot of BRITISH people feel about it, in all 4 parts of our once great nation.
  • Oops sorry I was tired when I wrote the post! 2 Children (could potentially be three dependant on when we go) I loved Edinburgh but would really like somewhere quite rural, we'd like to stay in a little rural cabin or something similar

Just because some people's opinions differ from yours, doesn't mean they are idiots.

My sister got married in Oban registry office and we went for a meal afterwards in a local hotel. It was a lovely day.

What about Dalbeattie? Not far from Gretna in distance and a beautiful country town with so much round about. If it's a holiday village then Barend gets good reviews. I haven't been but friends have. I think Dalbeattie still has a registry office but I think there is a programme of closure going on at the moment throughout Scotland. Here are approved venues in that area.

You really could just pick a location anywhere in Scotland and plan from there.
