Has my root canal been unsuccessful?

I've had a root canal done by a specialist. It was planned to be done over 2 visits but a crack was found so the treatment was done in one go.
That was 10 days ago. My mouth hasn't felt back to normal yet. The gum feels a bit puffy. I'm now on day 4 of Metronidazole but the gum still feels odd. Not an obvious abscess but not right.
I'm seeing my own dentist tomorrow regarding a temporary crown. Does this sound like the root canal has failed? I've already spent £600 so not sure if I should keep spending more money (another few hundred for a crown coming up....) but would like to keep the tooth if I can.
Advice appreciated.

You can't diagnose anything from 'what it sounds like'.
A bit of discomfort for a few days after a root filling isn't unusual, but then, if it was failing, it would also be sore.
Better to wait for the opinion of the dentist who can see it.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I'm a qualified dentist and from what you say it sounds like the root canal has failed, and you should not go ahead with the crown at this stage. Unfortunately NHS dentists are under pressure and likely to cut corners, if your dentist wants to go ahead with the crown you should find another one who knows what he's doing.
You will probably need an extraction, unfortunately... If you google teeth self-extractions it can save you a lot of money if you do that yourself.
(I actually don't know anything about dentistry, and I've made it all up, but how would you know? Asking for any kind of medical advice on an open forum is not a good idea in my opinion, and hope this nonsense post proves my point....)

Thanks Toothsmith
I don't have pain just sensation so that's given me a bit of reassurance/hope. That's all I was after0 -
I've just had a crown, but no root canal. It was sensitive for quite a while afterwards, even the cold water on a wet toothbrush left me with three hours of throbbing toothache.0

It ones happened with me 2 years back I done with root canal surgery for my lower canine and with 4 months after surgery it started paining. It got infection at bottom and had no other option than plucking it out.0

I had 7 root canal treatments in one tooth, 2nd from the back at the top. In between treatments there was some initial pain but there was none after a few days. Sadly after my last treatment my mouth became very swollen (I mean twice, three times the size) and painful, the tooth had to be pulled out then due to infection. If you are worried phone your surgery and ask, I was at the dentist every month for about 8-9 months and they were always happy to assist if I was unsure between treatment!
Good luck.0
