Going back to the earlier discussion we were having about monthly savers account its worth checking to see if your local building society has a monthly savers account - several of the very small ones have passbook branch based accounts.

These are very good if you are new to saving and want to see if you can be strong willed enough :) Usually its a standing order each month and one withdrawal per year which is good if you use them as your Christmas savings or you put your car insurance/MOT/road tax money away (this is what my son does)

We had Platinum savers for a couple of years with the Cheshire Building Society but with each issue the rate dropped. Mine was 5% but last year it dropped to 4% and now its only 3% but I suppose that is still a good rate. sadly this one has been taken over by Nationwide so it might stop altogether soon.

Yorkshire Building society are the same 3%

These are not very well advertised so you have to go looking for them.

  • Excuse me for asking, but what is the muller thing going on? I have looked back but can't find any specifics.

    Thanks

When was this shop please? Medley's are showing as £1.89 at T's now on MSM so will it still work today pls?

Unlikely to compare well now that MSM has updated to tomorrow's prices.

For anyone who has SP batter mix in their cupboards, it makes very acceptable pancakes.

This is my plan! Value batter mix, add 1 egg and some water and away you go! DH will be having them with burger bolognaise and I will be having chocolate sauce :p
  • Just been to Tesco for my BNI curries and Onion Rings, I was granbbing the till spits as they came out and the assistant vaguely saw the PP result and said"Oh and a 1p off your next shop, lol!"

I thought if it really says 1p something has gone drastically wrong with my shop!!!!

I also rang Marks bank today and the interest rate on their monthly savers is staying the same for the forthcoming year :T

I have a Marks current account and into this each month goes my standing order and of this £250 then goes into my monthly savings account and this mature at the start of April and the balance plus interest goes into the current next day :T

(You don't need to put a thousand into the Marks current anymore to keep the account viable so I only have now a standing order for my monthly savers plus a bit of emergency cash.)

So I asked the girl if this was open to new savers and she said yes, you can either make a branch appointment if you have a giant Marks close by or just over the phone.
    The number I use is
    0800 363459

Anyway worth a think about. When I did this last year I got a sweetener of a £100 gift card as well :T

Interest rate on the monthly saver is a fabulous 6% :T
