Hi all,
Just getting everything in order before sending the keys back to northern Rock with a voluntary surrender letter. However, what happens to the deeds of the property? Do I send them back with the keys or leave them in the house?
Cheers

Hi we just surrendered our house to NRAM before Christmas. I phoned them to tell them and gave them the date that we were moving into our rented house. They then sent a calling up notice (think that's what its called) via their solicitors. We were told to lock up and leave any alarm codes and keys for internal doors/windows in the house then they arranged to change the locks when they officially took possession so we were told not to send our keys back. Hope that helps. Good luck with it all

We sent our keys back but not the deeds. from memory, as we hadnt paid the mortgage in full, the lender kept the deeds. Could be wrong though. Be sure not to sign anything at all that your lender sends. I forget now what the exact deal is but they will try and dupe you into agreeing to be liable for the shortfall after the house is auctioned. That matters if you intend to go BR.Bankruptcy and Supporters club... Member 340.

The OP should not be in possession of the Deeds.....those are retained by the Lender..although a copy of hte deeds may exist [can be requested from a lender at any time].No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0

Your house is almost certainly registered with the Land Registry. You can check here if you want: http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/public/property-ownership
Assuming it is registered, then the "deeds" have no value at all.0
