Sounds lovely...but is it something you have to buy ready made, does anyone have a recipe, or is it something you put together with whatever root veg and cheese you happen to have??

It's a Scottish version of bubble and squeak -I think the idea is to use up leftovers. Can you really buy it ready made ? -good grief

Found this recipie in Shirley Goode's book "Goode for One."

Equal quantities of cooked potato and cooked cabbage
(the amount depends on your appetite)
    1 dessertspoon of grated onion
    1 teaspoon of butter
    Grated Cheddar Cheese
    pepper

Mash the potatoes with the butter, season with pepper and fold into the chopped cabbageand grated onion. Put into an ovenproof dish sprinkle over some grated cheese. Heat in the oven on Gas 5, 375*f or 190*c for about 15mins until the cheese is bubbling. For extra flavour fold in chopped crisply fried bacon.

Sound very tasty, think I will add it to my menu plan next week and have sausages with it:D

The only essential ingredients in rumbledethumps IMO is potatoes and onion. We have it about once a week. In fact, I often deliberately cook too many potatoes just so that I have enough to make rumbledethumps. I just add any other left over veg we happen to have, and yes, crispy bacon is a lovely addition to it.
