Heya! Well done on passing! :T:T

Having failed by 1 mark in October, I re-sat in January and passed (thank god), pass mark was 82 and I got 89 - there was really only one question I knew I did badly in (wild guesses that I later checked and confirmed to be wrong!), the rest I thought were fine so I was also surprised that I had passed quite narrowly.

However, after the frustration of failing by 1 mark I was just delighted to pass, so woop woop!! :p:p:beer::beer:

Studying for J10 (discretionary investment management) now, hoping to sit end of March (if I'm ready); anyone done that? xx

Nope but let me know how you get on. That's the only CII exam I don't have so planning on doing it later in the year.
  • Hi Guys

I am a relatively young individual (21) and have been in the industry for nearly 4 years. I am taking the R06 exam in October and I have passed (R01-R05). I wondered if you could recommend any courses that would be best to go on and any material worth purchasing?

I understand the exam is based heavily on technique rather than knowledge, which I am a little weak on. I would appreciate any tips or any further info on what would help me gain a better understanding of the exam and what is required.

Just do the past papers on Revisionmate and don't worry if you fail it, just think of it as extra practice.

    Two pieces of advice....

    1) Revise your NS&I products well.
    2) Remember PIPSI (Protection, Income Protection, Savings, Investments in that order)
  • Many thanks for the advice.

I will do so. I do want to go on a course however, just so I have a greater understanding of the exam and the case studies.

I am looking at doing the CII course for R06 but I am unsure how helpful they are, has anyone been to any, if so are they worthwhile?

I didn't bother with the CII course myself and passed first time.

There are a number of companies that will analyse the case studies for you and come up with what they anticipate the questions will be along with some model answers. Wizard Learning is one but there are plenty of others. I used a couple.

They won't be 100% and you mustn't rely completely on them and you'll have 2 weeks of intensive revision on the areas they anticipate will come up.

ifalife.com is a forum for financial advisers and you'll get more suggestions and tips there
  • The problem I have had in the past is the fact none of the training/learning material available is a realistic representation of the actual exam. I found myself getting 90-95% in every test and then sitting the exam to be shocked it how much it differed.

I did use BDW Development, as the test papers they offered were actually harder than the exam itself, however they have now stopped offering exam support. I guess the best thing will to just stick at doing past papers and top-up my knowledge on most areas. I will also purchase from a company the analysis of the case studies on what will come up.
  • I'm coming in to this quite late, especially as it was my thread.

I used BWD's course, work paid for it, and it was amazing. I really felt like i had the answers to all of the questions except one or two. I passed with ease, easiest exam I've done so far.

Doing J12 as we speak then carrying on with the L6 exams.
