Taking exam certificates to interview

I've just been for an interview and was asked if I'd brought my exam certificates. I hadn't because they hadn't told me I needed to - the phone call was very quick and I had to ask who would be interviewing me. Not too worried about this and don't think it will go against me. The only concern would be if the person who phoned me thought he had asked for them and I was therefore being inefficient or even didn't have the qualifications I had claimed (which I do, my degree certificate only arrived a few days ago and would have welcomed the chance to show it off! :D)

I may take these in future just in case but wondered whether it was common to ask for these at interview stage?

  • In my experience it is common as it helps in determining who actually has the required qualification and those who say they do but in reality don't.

Most recently there has been an issue over proving who you are, but being able to prove you do have the required qualifications before being asked may score brownie points &/or give the candidate more confidence.
Just means the briefcase at your feet has some blinking important paperwork - getting replacement certificates is a real chore.

Been having a big clearout recently and now have all my certificates together in a folder. The only one I can't find is my ECDL certificate but doubt that would a deal breaker - it's quite old and it wasn't an admin job, although a small amount of admin will be involved.

I'll definitely take them in future - no doubt they won't ask for them but I've got nothing to lose by taking them along.

Years ago the full ECDL certificate (ie you had passed all the units) was issued along with a plastic card, credit card size, which was easy to carry around as proof. Did you get that?

Yes, I think I did. Can't find that either! Wouldn't mind doing the ECDL again to update my skills but don't want to do it via distance learning and haven't found anywhere local that's offering it currently.

  • I once got to an interview, and they said "and this is the projector for your presentation"

Thanks. The Recruitement agency failed to tell me that one.

Sounds horrendous. What did you do?
