It's so annoying when you want to sort everything and and they're closed. Make yourself a list of all the phone calls you need to make on Monday morning and what you need to let them know and what you want to acheive. At least that way it'll be clearer in your head what you have to do xx
I did that as soon as I found out they were all closed! lol Thank you. x0 -

See when things are working and hubby is earning what he should be (plus as of next month I'll be earning an extra £150 a month as start new additional job Monday - I have included this in the above calculation) we have £300 left to play with a month - not a lot but at least everything is getting paid. I do have a car as well as hubby's works van but I can't afford to insure or tax it at the moment so I'm making the decision to sell it - the problem being the money will have to back to my parents as they paid for it!! Which is a !!!!!! as I could have paid something off with that! Also - although I am unable to cancel my contract phone (DH needs his for work) I am currently trying to get hold of Vodafone so I can change my tariff to lowest possible until I get tothe end of my contract.
I also have a £700 overdraft with Abbey AND a mountain of charges about to come out of my account at the end of July which is going to completely kill me as it will chew up about £250 - money I don't have, unless more bills go unpaid! AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Anyway, that's my SOA0 -
If you have already incurred bank charges, head over to the "reclaim your bank charges" board on this site and start the process to claim them back. They won't happen immediately, but they should come through eventually - the sooner you start the sooner you will get some money back.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I have been contemplating this for a long time as have thousands probably owed to me from Abbey - but I hear they are like getting blood out of stone compared to other banks. I'll take a look and get the ball rolling anyway, thank you. x0

It is still worth doing. I am off to court with Barclays next month for a claim that I started in January, so it can take a long time. But on the basis "if you don't try, you won't get" it has to be worth doing, in the hope that they will settle out of court.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Ok I'm not great on the financial side but can offer some advice on making some dosh! Have a look at the old style boards to save money on food shopping; sign up for some surveys & have a look at the freebies board;also go to utilities and see if you can save on gas & elec etc & have a think about AQA (not sure if you have a degree though because think you need one to do that?). Could you work in eves somewhere like tesco stacking shelves or factory work? Both are apparently quite fun while making dosh! Not sure if that helps? Check your banding for council tax and see if its the right one and have a think about reclaiming charges. You also have no gas on your soa - is it elec only? Keep posting and remember we're all with you! Big hugs...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

My husbands work although self employed means he is sub contracted to a company. He has regular work but due to weather (he is a Roofer) and his old workmate letting him down on and off over a period of 2 months he did not have regular work. Signing with an agency would not be a good idea - because he never knows when he will have the odd day off of work - he never has a whole week off. He does to the odd private job to bring in extra cash but his days are long enough at the moment that he could not fit more work into his day. Where his tax is concerned he pays that each week to the Inland Revenue - it is taken straight out of his wages paid by the company he is sub contracted to - so we do not have that worry. I will do my SOA and post it later as Im currently working myself and only have a 5min break. My friend has told me to contact CCCS, so I shall do that shortly.
Thanks and more advice is welcome.
Actually signing with an agency is still a good idea as they do have a lot of "odd day" work - sometimes ringing you up on the morning they want you to work. As long as he's able to inform them the day before, usually they can find something the day after.
Shame you don't live near me and he doesn't have a HGV licence. I could find him plenty of one off days at short notice, especially as it looks like I may be having to have an enforced break due to illness.0 -
What is so important about keeping your current property? You could sell your house and stay in the same area in rented accomodation.
I have to say that I just do not understand the British obsession with home ownership (speaking as an American living here temporarily). Why take on such a massive debt unless you're wealthy? Especially since, if you're going to tie yourself to a certain country by getting a mortgage which will be a hardship for you, why do so in the UK? I honestly do like it here, but not as much as I like some other countries which are less crowded, friendlier and have altogether better weather!
Can anybody enlighten me on this apparent desperation to join the home-owning class?0 -
Your paying £20 for a landline - is this with NTL or BT? Plus £17.99 for Broadband with NTL and £30 for Sky making a total of £67.99 If your phone is with NTL I'd suggest you gave them a ring and negotiated a better package.
I get Phone(plus unlimited calls)TV(XL package) and Broadband from NTL for £33.95 You might be able to get the two for £20 offer NTL are doing at present. I always find a call to NTL worthwhile, especially if you go straight to retentions!
Also reduce Sky down to the bare bones if you can't cancel it. If your landline is a BT one have you thought about the Sky offer at present where you can have Broadband,TV and unlimited calls(Eve/w/k) for £26 plus the £11 BT line rental. I think to get unlimited calls 24/7 it's an extra fiver.0 -

If I sell my house it will be years before I will be able to buy in the area again - and to rent privately here we would still be paying £800 a month for a 2/3 bed house - which is basically my mortgage but it's dead money, giving money to someone for their property - plus I want my children to have something/money when Im gone, something to help them and their children in years to come.
The Council house situation in Winchester where we live is ludicrous - Im sorry but I am not going to be shoved into some half way house whilst Im waited to be housed - and then you need to be a drug dealer, spent time in prison and be pregnant with your 11th child by the 11th different father before you are even considered for a council property.
Losing my home is not an option, I worked hard to get a mortgage but we have fallen on hard times in the last few months and I know we can get out if it we really try. I feel quite positive about that now.
I do work 4 evenings a week already where I have 2 cleaning jobs and the other evenings I do typing from home. I am signed up to YouGov to be paid for surveys, but am still stuck on £7.50 and have been signed up since last year! - anyone know any other companies that pay you for surveys? Im sure someone will tell me Im making excuses here now but my husband truly doesn't know until the day he gets up for work whether he has work or not - although we do know that from now onwards (pending on the weather) he does have full weeks work from now on, so things are looking up.0
