Does this seem good value?

Options
I have quite frankly had enough of paying the rip off supermarket prices for meat etc. and our local butchers unfortunately is out of my price range. I am going on holiday next month up to Yarmouth which is where I used to live and run a sandwich shop. As a result, I have accounts with some wholesaler/butchers there. I have been having a browse through their price list with a view to bulk but some bits to last us a little while. Does this seem good value? All of the meat is good meat, ie. chicken without all of the added fillers etc. Just wanted to make sure it is all a reasonable price.

  • Looks pretty good to me .I would buy it definitely and take it home with you.Making sure of course you have sufficient room in the freezer to store it
  • Thanks JackieO, yes, freezer is being run down to make room for it all. I guess I just needed a bit of reassurance on the prices before I bought it all as it will last us all quite a while. :) I spent a fortune on Asda shopping last week, and even though I bought the best value they had, the meat side of it really added up, even though in my opinion I use meat quite sparingly (eg. 500g mince easily serves 6 in a bolognaise sauce. etc)

The meat prices look good to me. If you go on a supermarket website it will give you the price per kg for their comparable products.

  • Thanks all. :) Cant wait to get my freezers stocked up with it. Im finding by the time Ive bought mince, chicken breast and a roast meat each week, plus my oh loves the tuna and salmon, it is costing an arm and a leg for meat from the supermarket that just isn't very good quality. And this stuff I used to get all the time when we had the shop there and it was good quality. I miss those days, food shopping was so much cheaper there than here in general. Also going to go into the big B&M stores whilst there and get some more cupboard stocks hopefully. x

I would suggest using mysupermarket to find the best prices for those. The problem is that with supermarkets you might not be getting just meat. My local butcher is great. It might be fractionally more than the supermarket but the quality is better and it has not been adulterated like the stuff that supermarkets sold. I would actually buy beef shin rather than mince, so at least you can see what it is before you mince it. When I make my mince I set it up over the slow cooker so as it minces it goes straight in to the slow cooker ready for cooking.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
