I don't think this is any different to other companies' staff only competitions - the NHS staff work incredibly hard and it's nice to see they have these opportunities.

As for publicly-funded being an issue, well, I don't think it's any different to NHS managers receiving bonuses...

IMHO, these comps are good for NHS staff morale: a little something to show them that they are respected for what they do.
  • Quite right JessicAhh - in fact, there should be MORE such competitions in my opinion and no, I'm not an NHS employee! :)

The prize will have been donated by a company, the NHS wont have paid for it (+ getting staff to cycle could save the NHS money in mileage costs for community staff!). Although it has set me thinking about BBC competitions and gameshows - does that prize money come out of the licence fund?

BBC financing doesn't just come from the licence fee, so it's not really that clear cut. http://www.bbcworldwide.com/

of course, I forgot about the commercial side, probably the doctor who merchandise alone is more than enough to fund the Bargain Hunt competitions from here to infinity!

I don't recall any competitions run by the NHS for NHS staff only when I worked in the NHS. But if there are some now, then good for them.
Barclays has an in house magazine every month that gives some great prizes away but only to barclays staff, and the company I work for now has a photo competition running right now and has had other comps previously.

There are always going to be some comps we can't all enter, the ITV ones that pay your mortgage for a year, useless to renters or mortgage paid home owners.
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

More companies should do it... Always feel a bit peeved when I can"t enter for Morrispns vouchers because I work there. Doesn't mean i don't shop there too
