credit report -6 years in

Just 2 months away from the 6 year 'declaration' period.

Not hung up on it, as don't really want the credit experience all over again.

that given, i have ensured my credit report ,details accurately the dates of my bankruptcy and end of bankruptcy-albeit it stays on file for 6 years.

What actually happens in practice though ?

I am 6 years in on 12 May.
Will leave it alone for month-but then-in june, if i get a credit report then-am i right that it should have no reference to my bankruptcy whatsoever, and any records on defaults on my credit repot should be completely expunged.

that i believe is the theory-but IN PRACTICE -is that likely to be the case-or will i get into more letter writng to tell the credit agencies what to do.

I thought worthwhile leaving it a month for the agencies to sort themselves on this-but am i right to have a nagging doubt that in practice-my credit report 6 years and one month post bankruptcy will (incorrectly ? ) still make reference to my bankruptcy 6 years previous.

if that is the case (why don't i trust them to automatically remove these records ) what should i do to correct it and get a completely 'clean ' report ?

If seemingly differs depending on the 3 credit reference agencies and how their systems update.

Experian/creditexpert remove things at midnight exactly 6 years to the day.

Callcredit seem to do the same, but can sometimes also remove defaults etc up to a couple of weeks earlier for some odd reason. They did mine. Noddle obviously same, subject to the fact that report only updates once per month.

Equifax - If you expect things to be removed from them on time at 6 years then don't hold your breath. Can take a few weeks. You can complain, but debatable if worth the bother.

thanks for that.quite re-assuring all in all.

It seems then that certainly withi 8 weeks, all 3 credit agencies should give me a 'clean report 'and i probably will not have to 'do 'battle' with them

Yep, even the slow ones should have sorted it within a month or so.

  • I had this last January and decided to check my credit files.

I discovered the bankruptsy had not been removed a month after it was due and some of the debts settled by the bankruptcy had later dates.

I got a trial offer with Experian and then contacted them about the corrections on my file. I also had to contact a water company about an incorrect debt at an old address before it was removed.

In all it took about 3 months and afterwards my credit rating shot up.

It's worth keeping an eye on it. Possible subscribing in the mean time to see if everything drops off in time.

If the plan is to have credit checks then don't just assume it's gone like I did. It was only when I tried to switch electricity from key meter to quarterly that I was turned down and realised my credit file might not have been updated.
