funding for education
Hi,
I'm a single parent and i'm planning on going back to college to study part time when my daughter turns 2. When my daughter is in full time school education i'd really love to work towards going to university to study nursing but I don't want to throw myself straight into university after years of not studying, hence starting back at college. The unfortunate problem I have is that I am on benefits and do not have enough money to cover the cost of buying a laptop, printer and educational books etc. I was wondering if there were any charities or organisations that could possibly help me with my situation as I have nobody I can ask for help like that. Does anyone know how I can go about finding any information?
Thankyou!

Many colleges have funding towards books, however in most colleges they are available in the library or they can bought cheaply from people who are finishing the same/similar courses. Most colleges have computer centres that you can use and you will have access to college printing systems.
I'm a mechanic and I went back to college as I wanted to go to university, but I needed to get certain qualifications before that was possible, I did a one year access course before starting university. As I was self employed I continued working full time while at university so I took out a fee loan but I didn't take out a maintenance loan. I didn't have a computer or anything (didn't have internet access at home) and I just used the computing and printing services available at university. At my college there was a computer suite you could use, but for those who did have the internet at home you could rent computers to use the colleges system to access journals etc.0
