Old CCJ - new debt collectors?

Hi all,
A question on behalf of my dad.
He's a received a letter from debt collectors for an old debt that he was given a CCJ for around 10 years ago.
The debt collectors say that if he is able to settle the debt of around £339 by paying them £85.
Is this something he should pay off or given that the debt has already been declared on his credit file and now come off, he shouldn't?
Please help!!!

They could try to enforce the ccj even after 10 years, though there is an argument that the court should not allow this - see the National Debtline explanation here:

A 25% settlement is pretty good, and it brings the settlement down to quite a small figure.
I'd settle, but I'd want the deal set out on letterheaded paper and containing no weasel words.0 -
I'd also want to know if the DCA know there is a CCJ. Many times, in these situations, they don't.
Did it mention this in the letter? If not I'd throw a prove it letter their way and see what comes back.
Don't trust them.I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013

This dca bought this debt for pennies; I think it's very unlikely they would escalate this further. Ignore it or send them a 'not known at this address' response on the envelope. It's not a huge debt and they're not going to invest much time and money into trying to recover it.0

Thanks so much everyone!
We're going to reply back stating that a CCJ was received against this debt (whenver it was) and might just print off the Noddle report showing this.
Is there a template any of you might be able to guide me to or is it quite a simple "But this is an old CCJ" letter?0 -

Why would you do this? What are you hoping to achieve? You've been given the option of a 25% settlement deal at £85
Eyeopener/ Rizla/ "Deleted User" give you an option that might even save that.
And you want to remind them that there is a court order to pay £339.
Also why is a 10-year old ccj showing on Noddle?0
