Small print

Jessops advert to defer payment for 12 months on purchases over 99 pounds has a sting in its tail-a 29 pound settlement fee.So only a substantial purchase gives an attractive, effective, low interest charge. There are many cheaper ways of financing your new camera! How many customers will be caught out not just by the fee but by the excessive 29.8% APR if they fail to repay within 12 months? And will the Jessops assistants explain these two points to customers? The caveat emptor reply is out of date-imagine the queues in stores if every customer read the small print in electrical,a- v,high value transactions.Add to which the ignorance of many customers in dealing with financial terminology. The need for formal financial education for all 15/16 students is blatantly obvious.
