Hi.

I need a good disinfectant for mopping my floors. My dog has regular accidents, I've heard bleach isn't great cos its covering ammonia with ammonia.

Any ideas?

Try a good pet shop or animal feed suppliers for something specific. I use Safe4 for pet accidents which as well was being anti bacterial and killing bugs is also safe for pets.

I use Zofora, poundshop, it is very concentrated, so you only need a capful in water, I also put a capful in a spray bottle and use it as air freshner.

  • if its urine accidents, the best thing to use is biological washing powder....it breaks down the smell that causes the dog to go back to the same place and breaks the cycle....

zoflora or detrol, the type of thing that goes cloudy white in water are not pet safe. :). I use them for some cleaning uses in my (pet heavy) household but not others, like floors, because I don't want dogs/cats licking paws that have walked on floors like that.

Op if you are on mains drainage I tend to like biological laundry detergent.
  • I use a steam mop, you can pick them up for under £30 now. The steam kills the bacteria and germs without the need of chemicals (i do spry the floor with kitchen cleaner near the cats litter tray just to make it smell fresh before steaming it) xx
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56

Any disinfectant that turns water cloudy is dangerous to animals. They might not lick the floor, but may lick their paws later on.

A steam mop, or dettol floor cleaner with the ability to shut the pet out for an hour or so after mopping. I'd maybe get a spot cleaner for his accident areas such as nilco anti-bacterial.

    Xx

I was going to suggest that. Even if you had to wash it again with something else. I wash my floors with vinegar. It is a lot cheaper and safer than other products.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Zoflora is considered pet safe as although it goes cloudy this is due to the fragrance not being soluble and not due to anything harmful.
