unfortunately for me, the manager at ours has a 'strictly trade only policy', which is by the rules & i do understand. it took quite a bit of pleading & a phone call to head office before it was okayed for me to even go in & have a look at a colour chart...0 -
Thanks everyone. Well I managed to visit sallys near me and they were very helpful. I got my lighter brown shade and 20% peroxide and did an allergy test which was ok and carried out a small colour test on a strand of hair. It said the 20% will lift it 1 shade lighter but it didn't make any difference
Now I'm not sure if I should go for the 30% peroxide? And worry it will damage and dry my hair out.
The alternative is to let my hair grow out, and just dye the roots in the new colour? Will look strange tho.
Or I'm wondering if I should put highlights through my hair first and then apply colour

I use Wella Koleston and 6% peroxide. Luckily my friend gets it for me at trade price but even if I had to pay non trade, it would still work out loads cheaper than the hairdressers.
I have tried a few different boxes of shop bought stuff and they were rubbish. I also tried the rusk range from Sally's but it did't quite make the grade. Wella is definitely the best.
Just realised you're going lighter. Not sure of this as I darken mine but every year or so, (about April time), I have some highlights and this certainly helps 'blend' things. The fine highlights grow out over the year but fade and still look lovely at the end of the growth!0 -
Hi I've a similar question. I currently get my roots redone every 6 weeks and they use wella 6.1 - (ann ash brown I think ) but its just getting too expensive for me at the moment (it costs 65 for a colour and blow dry it 81 for cut colour & blow dry!) I want to start colouring it at home. I'm probably about 20% grey maximum.
Any suggestions which colour to use, I'd be happy to try a semipermanent first till I get the hang of it as I don't think I need a permanent with just 20% grey do I ?Grocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!
March 14 £500 / spent £488.45 :j0 -
