No, you don't. Even if they say you do they cannot force you to.0

As above, they can't force access. If they try to force, ask them to put it in writing and sign it- they won't do this. You don't have to give a reason beyond it's not mandatory and you don't wish too.
They can mandate you make an account, and can check you have it by searching for your email in their system. If it's blocked they'll see you have an account but can't access it.
What they can do is ask you to prove things though, so keep email acknowledgements, knockback mails, reference numbers and contact details.
Technically they can't mandate you use UJM, but it's far easier to use it under duress but focus on other sites. For example they can't force you to apply for a specific job via UJM, but they can mandate you to apply for a specific job. If you don't apply via UJM you'd have to look up the employer and find an alternate way of applying to avoid sanction. This is doable at times, but sometimes the ad doesn't give enough info so you pretty much have to apply via UJM. I've found it makes for an easier life to use UJM but rely on better sites.0 -
do you have to sign up if just verbally told to, or do JCP have to do it in writing? last few weeks the signing 'advisor' asks if i have, even though I have been searching/applying loads elsewhere, though latest clerk seems to be a bit more hardball..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

They can check this with the email address you have used.
You also have to use it to look for work. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yes you have to sign up and get an account
They can check this with the email address you have used.
You also have to use it to look for work.
No it is not mandatory to sign up unless you get a direction.
No you do not have to use it as there nare many superior sites.
Do not give them access ever.0 -
If they gain access then they can see if you are rejecting jobs because they fall below your salary expectations. I got moaned at and threatened with a sanction for doing that. I went home and unticked the box, thus removing access to my account by my adviser.Never Knowingly Understood.

JCP must issue a Jobseeker's Direction which mandates you to open an account, until that point you can refuse, if you do not follow the direction and open an account, you will be sanctioned.0 -
with all the fuss in media lately, beats me why they are stil pushing it, espcecially when I can show (have printouts!) of all the jobs i have a pplied for, via other sites, email etc..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

I signed up to use UJM quite a while ago but as it was overly difficult to use as I had to key in an overly long number each time I have number dyslexsia, my account has now expired.
I saw an advisor at the jobcentre yesterday and I was advised that I didn't have to use UJM and he wouldn't use it if he was looking for a job. I provide spreadsheets showing the jobs I have applied for and whether or not I have been shortlisted or had an interview.0
