Long standing poster on this forum with an ex who is self employed and (very) non compliant when it comes to all things child maintenance.

Case with CSA since 2008. Ex not very bright so I have (had - see below) a reasonable assessment even if it doesn't reflect what the ex was taking from his business at the point of separation. Various Liability Orders made, failed DEO ('cos he's in charge of paying himself, was never going to work, was it?!), 'inspectors' who went out to him and from whom he managed to successfully conceal himself....you get the picture. Finally got an Order of Sale in 2012 on a property he co-owns with now ex-girlfriend (he didn't turn up in court). Possession Order secured many months later. House due to be repossessed on the Tuesday and the ex FINALLY called the CSA's solicitors on the Friday before. Talk about a close call. I really thought he was going to let it happen. Agreed he would pay £100 a week to avoid loss of house. This happened some months ago now - he has paid, albeit inconsistently (not one month with the full payments - usually 2 payments made a month, sometimes 3) and as it's better than nothing I have accepted it and not pushed for any further action.

Ex told CSA he wanted to pay me directly from now on. I asked for a reassessment which resulted in a very, very reduced assessment from the previous one (was bound to happen!). So reduced, it is actually only marginally less than he's been paying in arrears for several months and as he was living alone until recently, there is no way he could have been meeting the basics of life and paying his arrears. I have sent it back and asked for it to be re-considered - apparently this is a new thing (mandatory reconsideration I think it was called?) but not holding my breath. And of course, he hasn't made any direct payments.

Various new business ventures out there - not yet realised he's visible to the whole world when you google his mobile phone number. Got himself new girlfriend and moved in with her - as yet, no request for reassessment (but it will come as she has a couple of children). Company director of one new business which wasn't taken into consideration in his earnings. He has not responded to requests for information (either personally or the business itself - there is a co-director, unknown person to me). Case now referred to Criminal Compliance and caseworker currently on case suggested I ask for a variation. Again.

So....result in terms of pushing for the sale of his house meaning I now get regular-ish maintenance in the form of arrears. Not so great in that new assessment is next to nothing but he has stayed true to form and is refusing all contact so I guess it's ding, ding, round two. I'll update in a few years!

Hope all struggling with non-compliant, self-employed exs are well and keeping the faith (and their sense of humour). With much love xxxx
