Lanyard VIP Party Invite - hellllppppppp!

Hi,

I wondered if anyone would be able to help.

My daughter is having an 8th Birthday Party for about 40 children and she would really love to have VIP Lanyard's to give out as invitations.

Everywhere i look online is so expensive so i was hoping that someone on here might be able to give me some tips on how i can make them myself to reduce costs. I have no idea where to source the materials need for the bit that goes round the neck and also maybe a template for the invitation.

I'm not very artistic but, i have access to laminator, printer and guillotine etc.

Thanks so much XX

You can get free templates from a lot of places. Google is your friend.

If you want plain lanyards, ebay, amazon etc will do you for 40 of them.

I have to be honest, if you're wanting to reduce costs, don't invite 40 kids to a VIP party - it is pretty unnecessary!
  • Thank you Dom, I'll have a look online. I wasn't getting much joy when I looked earlier but I'll have another search.

I was just looking into reducing the cost for the invitations and also making them more unique and special. I thought that this was a board for asking for tips for things like this.

Not quite sure why you said it was unnecessary as that wasn't what I was asking.

    Well Meggiemoo...

You could have googled - 9 out of 10 top page results are what most people would consider cheap, including personalisation.

And with the comment about 40 kids being excessive - from your OP, you wanted to cut costs, I was only trying to help. Next time I won't bother!
  • Hi,

I wasn't being rude Dom and i do appreciate any help on here.

TBH - It probably is excessive to have a full on hall and disco for 40 kids but, I love organising stuff like this and was hoping to be able to make the invitations on here and thought that someone on here might have made their own and could give me some tips.

    :)

meggie moo - you can pick up the ribbon and make your own, theres lots of sellers on ebay, you`ll need approx 60-70 cm for each one. I seen it in all the craft shops, think ebay cheaper though if you buy a roll.

Then choose a template, print off and laminate.

Good luck with the party hope it goes well for you
    ps pm`d you

    Hi MeggieMoo,

It isn't ribbon on lanyards as such, it is grosgrain. You can get it from loads of places, I use Abakhan as there is one in Manchester (they have a website as well). You'll need a sewing machine though as it is tough to sew!

Funnily enough this is part of my job (accreditation for large music events/site access), I just casually strayed into a new corner of MSE for me.

Personalised lanyards are expensive even when you're buying 1000+, so buying 40 is a very small order. You can get ready-made 'VIP' ones though, and they may do the trick for 8-year-olds.

One thing to be aware of is that you're effectively putting a rope around somebody's neck - unless you buy safety/breakaway ones. For adults working in offices it's fine, for kids running around, go for the safety ones.

For the 'VIP' pass itself, in the UK for rock'n'roll the most common format is A7 laminating pouches (which are easy to find online, impossible in shops), and about £4/100pcs. The best thicknesses are 350/500 micron, but they're harder to find and 250micron will be fine for kids. Then you can make your inserts 85x65mm and print them yourself 8 to a page (4 to a page if you design them double-sided folded over) on normal paper. You can add stickers and glitter etc if you like before laminating.

If you don't mind a round hole, use one half of a hole punch. If it's too narrow for the clip, use it twice. If you want to look better you can get a slot-cutter, they're hard to find and overkill for 8 year olds I suspect.

Another cheaper option all round is to buy ready-made tyvek VIP wristbands. They are cheap as chips if you hunt around. Look for 'tyvek wristband vip' on ebay and the net, you'll find them easily enough. They're tough enough to last all day, soft enough not to cut the skin, and look the part. We tend to use them for people who are coming for a day as opposed to a month, ideal for a party.
