lost pension

Please can anyone help me?..
My husband had a pension with an old employer quite a few years ago. He had some statements sent out from time to time but they went to his previous address which was his mother's house. Any way when she died his brother got the house and because of a fall out with my husband had thrown out anything that had come in with his address on it.

A few years ago we decided to trace his pension and it turns out that a cheque had been sent out to his old address even though we changed to where we live some years ago. Now we are stuck. The cheque was never cashed but there is nothing anyone seems to know of what we can do now. I would be grateful for any replies thank you.

Sounds a bit odd, if the cheque hasn't been chased then it should be able to be reissued with evidence of identification and address.

Have you contacted the pension company, if so then request reissue and if problematic make a formal complaint after which you can go to teh ombundsman if they don't resolve this.

If it's a pension then there should surely be a pension payable as well. Have you checked on this?
  • Thank you for replying.

So far we've just managed to trace it to cheque being sent out. The person dealing with the pension no longer works for the company. I don't know where we go from here, that's why I turned to this site for help. My husband is only ten years from pension age and we want to try and get this sorted. Is there any thing else we can do? surely there has to be something? I would be really grateful for any help anyone can offer, we just seem to be at a stand still.

    Thanks.

this does not make sense either. Can you try to explain it in more detail and with clarity please.
Pensions are administered by Pension scheme trustees, they are not the same as the Employer. Was the cheque a refund of contributions due to the period of employment being short (usually under 2 years) or a sum to be transferred to your husband's new pension with the new job?

  • My husband got made redundant from his place of work so i think the money was frozen,he continued to get the statements but when he fell out with his brother everything stopped. We had changed the address when we got married but for some reason the statements kept going to his brother's who, for all we know, put them in the bin. From what we have been told there was a letter sent to my husband about the company changing the banks in which the pension were paid into and he had a choice of two to choose from but he had to fill in a form which of course we didn't receive. We were then told a cheque had been sent for my husband to put in a pension of his own, that's all we know for now. We've been trying to get this sorted for almost two years now and all we seem to do is draw blanks. The money was never cashed so it has to be somewhere. I'm sorry to be so confusing but its the way it was explained to us.

    Thank you.

    hank you.

if the pension was deferred (not frozen) then it cannot have been being paid into a bank as well.
Who told you about the cheque being sent?
    Who has done the 'explaining'?
