Dipping my toes...

  • Just done a bit of research into current accounts. I think I might open a Nationwide account for the contingency fund, and move £1000 into it each month and £700 back out again in order to get the 5% interest.

    Every little helps, I guess!

I too am in a terraced house, need to spruce it up to sell it in a few years time and get my forever home in a different county :)

Good luck with it all :)

That's £500 each, but it is quite generous really.

It'll probably be reined in at some point. Good luck with sprucing up your house though! I hated doing ours but it was worth it in the end.

After my really productive money saving day yesterday, my OH keeps trying to rein me in. I suggested to him we open that Nationwide account, and he just thought it seemed too much effort, until I told him that using the interest each month could take 5 months off the mortgage. Then he seemed more amenable! I also got persuaded to have a 'money MOT' at the bank. My OH said it sounded like a complete waste of time, and as it turned out, it really was, but it was quite amusing watching the bank man desperately trying to sell me a packaged account. :j

I think I will move alcohol purchases from my grocery budget to the 'other' or pocket money budgets. Might be a bit if a cheat, but I think it will be easier to get the grocery budget down that way.
