Back to Cate1976's original forum post...

A couple of days ago, I received a text from the above named company saying:

MR David Bone, please contact PDCS re an important matter by calling us on 0141 ### #### quoting case number #######.

A quick search on Google got me to a site where I found out PDCS are a debt collector based in Glasgow and they mostly deal with utility debts. They're known for sending texts to loads of people in the hope of getting the person they're looking for.

The site had several posts suggesting not to ring them. The thing is I do have a few debts which I'm paying off but am up to date with payments.

The only utility debt I have is with Scottish Power who supply mine & my husband's electric & gas but the account is in his name with the debt being paid off by paying extra money each month.

If I genuinely owe anyone money, then I'll either pay it in one go or arrange to pay what I can afford each week/month.

I had a look on PDCS website & you can pay on there after giving the usual personal details. I'm reluctant to do this as due to comments I saw, I'd be concerned that PDCS might try to make me pay a debt that's not mine.

Last thing that makes me suspect it might be dodgy is that I've only had the phone just under 4 months & the companies I'm dealing with only have the landline.

Question is does anyone else have any experience of dealing with PDCS?

Is the name on the text your name?

Ignore them unless/until they can be bothered to write to you with details of the alleged debt.

It may be worth checking your credit files for any evidence of debts on there that you were unaware of, or are not yours.

  • Ignore. They will write if they want you.

No need to think about paying, from what you say it isn't yours.

Always deal in writing, never ring companies like this. They will say anything to get you to pay, they would never put the same in writing.

  • I have recieved this text and have absolutely no debts. Do not pay anything. Wait for a letter, anyone could be behind the texts.

Do not call them, wait for a letter, could be a phishing scam

Its as you suspect, an old DCA trick, to cast there net as wide as possible, hoping the person there after will contact them.

Actually, there not particular, they would take anyone's money probably.

Unless you get a good olde fashioned letter, addressed to you, detailing the alleged debt, then, as the others have said, ignore them completely.

They tried it on with me, they claimed I owed money for over payed tax credits which I'd cleared with HMRC themselves a few years ago. The figure they presented me with was nowhere near what I owed, so suspicious of a phishing scam.... they ignore my e-mails so I ignore their letters and texts. They're only wasting their own money ~shrugs~
  • I think it's hilarious how companies are selling non existent debts to PDCS and other companies....
    Cheers easy! Ha Ha Ha
  • I too have had the same texts and automated voicemails, I have contacted them and because I could not confirm the same details as there system they would not discuss the matter with me, the guy said he would remove my number as I obviously was not the person they were looking for. I have since had more messages so I emailed their admin team who have asked for a copy of my passport, I asked how this will confirm my address details and am yet to hear back!! I am not being pinned with someone else's debt!!!

Just ignore them and if you have the ability, add their text number to your blocked list.

If these people are really chasing a live debt, they will soon either write to you or start Court action.

If they are stupid-enough to try Court, you just send in your defense stating that you are not, and do not know, the person they are reffering to.
