Where can I buy good quality non-prescription reading glasses?

I have been buying Tesco reading glasses, 1.5 strength, only £3.50 but the quality is (as expected at this price) very poor.

I have had prescription ones before but my job means they get broken easily, so I just keep buying the cheap Tesco ones.

However, I have been trying to find out if there are companies which sell better quality off-the-shelf ones with decent lenses and stronger frames.

I have found the Tesco ones hit and miss. Often, there are imperfections (bubbling) in the plastic lenses and you have to move your head to avoid the bubbles in the field of vision.

I'm happy to pay much more but don't want to end up with cheap lenses.

If anybody knows of a supplier of decent glasses, I'd appreciate some information.

I have some of the tesco ones in the depths of my bag for emergencies! Otherwise I have got them from Sight Station - found these in Boots and they seem to work fine - also picked up a good pair in Primark (as cheap as Tesco but seem better)

I've been buying and using the Poundshop ones, for reading, for quite a few years now, and never had any problems with imperfections or bubbling...no head turning has ever been necessary

I use the 2.50 strength ones.

Undervalued

You can get prescription ones online for less than £10 including postage! It did take a few weeks as the firms bargain offerings are made and shipped from abroad which is presumably how they do it for the price. Their more expensive options are UK produced.

I had a pair made (in my case with different strengths in each eye) to keep on my workbench and they are excellent with coated lenses. They seem every bit as good as standard lenses from my optician.

I appreciate you don't actually need prescription ones but if you want a step up from Tesco £3.50 jobs it may be worthwhile.

I got some from M&S. I have 1.75 and this seems to be a tricky strength to get off the shelf in most places. They are quite good quality and different styles. About £6.00.
I have had Asda prescription ones, the cheapest I could get which was about £15.00, but they did not last very long.
I've got lots of pairs around the house as I'm always forgetting where I put them!
I keep a spare pair in my car and a spare pair at work, because it's a disaster if I get to work and have forgotten my specs.

However I think there are others. Google is your friend!

If you don't want to do it online it is worth searching for any spectacle manufacturers near where you live. There is one on a small industrial estate in a village a few miles from me. They will deal direct and provide glasses from about £15.

All your optician is doing is ordering from somewhere like this and adding a hefty markup!
